Ex Qantas exec to take charge at Tiger

Qantas executive Rob Sharp has been appointed to run Tiger Australia, the low-cost airline confirmed this morning.
Tiger recently received regulatory approval to sell 60 per cent of the company to Virgin Australia.
Mr Sharp was the global head of commercial airport infrastructure and services at Qantas.

Only a small pool of people in Australia, so you would imagine that as part of career progression they would have to jump between companies....

It would certainly be a surprise to have a name change. Similarly, the cost of a new livery and uniforms when the airline is bleeding money seems unlikely, especially with the lack of a name change.

Remember Singapore still owns a decent % and I'd have thought the name would be excluded from changing (at least for a period of time).

Indeed. Happens in many careers where the skills are in short supply but easily transferable to a new employer. And at least stops the moaning and groaning that occurs when someone from overseas is appointed...

The tiger branding rights have been purchased for 20-25 years so I highly doubt the brand will change.

Like others I was surprised they didn't rebrand as Scoot during the grounding.

I'll be interested to see where they go with TT. In some regards there is enormous opportunity as they have a very successful 'big brother' in VA with plenty of resources and experience and somewhat of a clean slate to make the budget airline anything they want it to be. They will also learn from the mistakes of the JQ/QF partnership.

In other regards it's an enormous job as despite the much improved OTP there are enormous issues with profitability and brand reputation.

Their time in the shed is limited and they will relocate to the new T4 when complete.
