JETSET TRAVELWORLD ANNOUNCES CEO SUCCESSION

27 July 2012

The Chairman of Jetset Travelworld Limited (ASX:JET), Mr Tom Dery, announced today the impending retirement of current CEO, Mr Peter Lacaze.

But the more significant part of the relase is about the new CEO:

It is with pleasure we announce that Mr Rob Gurney will succeed Peter Lacaze. His start date is 27 August 2012.

Rob Gurney was most recently Group Executive, Commercial of Qantas.

....

His most recent position was Group Executive Qantas Airlines Commercial.Key responsibilities included:

Global sales, marketing, distribution and channel management including qantas.com
Network scheduling and revenue management
Airline alliances, Joint Ventures and strategic partnerships Airport infrastructure and international airport operations Qantas Link and Network Aviation
Freight and Express Freight Joint Ventures
Executive Committee member reporting to CEO

QF loses another valuable member.

Sounds like a fairly standard retirement and promotion to another part of the larger company. He will gain new business expertise and maybe return to QF in another position later in his career.

There just wasn't room in the new structure. He will be a perfect fit for that job, sadly in QF he was never going to jump any higher in management so he will get the chance in this role. Good on him, he deserves it.

Given QF hold over 50% of Jetset, I don't think QF have really lost anything.
