Ever noticed that airport cafés don't display coffee prices?

Has anyone noticed that many of the cafés in Australian airports do not display a menu or prices for coffee in a way that is clearly visible? I often find that when I'm ordering a coffee (on occasions where no lounge is available or I'm in the main terminal for whatever reason) I actually have no idea what the price will be and have to ask.

Are the cafés just embarrassed to publicise that it's $6.50 (or whatever) for a small coffee?

Reminds me of an incident I remember as a young boy travelling with my parents through India. Now bear in mind in those days a cup of tea or coffee from anywhere in India might be about ₹5, which was probably about AUD equivalent to 10c. Not in airports because anyone travelling in an airport is extremely wealthy, where the price was charged in USD $2.50 a cup. Which translates to closer to ₹160.

This was more than 30yrs ago but I wouldn't be surprised that this type of fleecing continues in airports.

Agreed. It just irritates me. I keep walking until I find one with the prices displayed.

Perhaps the offending cafes are actually trying to accommodate some of our overseas visitors who come from places where haggling over price is the norm. Maybe we should all ask the price and then offer 50% of that price and see what happens. We all tend to have an excess of spare time at the airport, just waiting around, so if we all did this it might lead to some change in behaviour! (All said in jest, I wouldn't want to subject the employed staff to that)

Normally, small coffee charges about $5 (Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra airports).

I saw the sign that tells you how much for the regular and large coffee but the prices have been removed! lol

Input from Sydney T2 Domestic this morning (non-QANTAS) … coffee prices posted at all vendors.

Mebbe it’s an International thing?

Interesting. When I started this thread, I had recently noticed that prices were not displayed in MKY, BNE (domestic), SYD (T3), CBR or the QF terminal in MEL.

Yeah, I noticed that fleecing in Kolcatta airport some 10 years ago.

From memory they post prices in ADL but now you'll make me check on this in my multiple airports next week :p

Not only airports but none of the coffee shops I frequent in South and Port Melbourne display coffee prices (but you can see the price on the terminal before you tap) eg Noisette, Hurricane Handsome, Clement, St Ali, Vertue to name five.
