thoroughly recommend eurostar for travel in italy. i booked first class via internet, all was great, only couple of glitches, if they can even be called that.
the seat booked on net appeared as single window seat but i was in window seat of two with two opp. No big deal, comments from other travellers also expecting that they had booked seats side by side and got single seats.
the other thing to watch for in first class is to make sure you press the panel on wall near door to open door at required station. a young american gentleman offered to help me off with my luggage and stood near the door. neither of us realized that when the train stops, a green light comes on the side panel which releases the door. i couldn't believe it after we waited awhiles for the door to automatically open, that the train left the station. thought i was in a movie :( i accidentally found the conductor soon afterwards and in our lack of language of the other, i was advised that we should have pressed the panel when it turned green. the conductor let me know i could get off at the next station and return to where i should have. he came to get me just prior to next station and yes the panel did turn green when the train stopped
