Hi There,

I travel often from Europe to Sydney with Qantas and have yet to get a business upgrade despite having qantas club and a gazillion frequent flyer points.

Has anyone had success upgrading to business on a particular time/day/route? I'm thinking London Heathrow will be the busiest and Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon flights.

Thus i'm thinking other departure countries such as netherlands, germany, switzerland etc

Welcome any thoughts?

Mitch

Your right about the busy days... Tue/Wed seem good options for lesser loadings.

To Europe regardless of the other locations you mention the only QF routes are... (I think) so you can get to other countries either via partners from SIN/HKG/BKK or via partners on a short haul flight from FRA or LHR.

AU-SIN-FRA
AU-SIN-LHR
AU-HKG-LHR
AU-BKK-LHR

Via HKG seems to be a better upgrade chance. (SIN-FRA is a 2 class only and seems booked full in J most flights i have done)

Not just J, try finding L class on this route 4 months out.:-|

Which is about the sort of class i usually travel on for work. :-|
Nearly all these flights are busy, i assume also the USA flights are the same from what people say. Thats why QF make money i guess. Still do find them better to fly with than others so i am not changing my preferences in a hurry.

I wonder if the MEL-SIN traffic has a lot to do with the L class availability, you can try taking SYD-SIN on one of the LHR services and transfer across to the SIN-FRA service.

I don't mind LHR that much, just allow time and expect delays, taxes are nasty though.

Lets hope we see some extra routes when QF get some more planes, you never know what may happen, looks like jet* could start a service to Rome one day.

Still if i had to pick a 3rd port to fly to in Europe i am not sure what i would choose, AMS or CDG i think would be the front runners for a large airline but there could be others to think of.

Here's the loadings for QF6 for a date I am looking at in June:
  • FRA-SIN: J9 C9 D9 I0 B9 H9 K9 M9 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0
  • SIN-SYD: J9 C9 D5 I0 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0
  • FRA-SYD: J9 C9 D4 I0 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0
In this case there's more availability SIN-SYD then ex FRA.

Well i guess that answers that. June, school holidays ?
Thats very very full for 4 months out, and what are you doing flying whY ?
L, on a LONE4 or similar maybe ?
