Europcar complementary status + benefits overseas

Have two questions with the Europcar Privilege comp upgrade. Cant find the answer in other threads...

Currently have 'Privilege Executive' expiring December 2013. Thinking to pull the pin on the 'Privilege Elite' upgrade through VA as the extra benefits will be good for some personal use car hire later in the year. I am guessing once processed the privilege elite expiry will be December 2014, however Europcar has given me many 'surely you cant be serious' moments in the past. Has anyone recently used their comp upgrade and if so what is the expiry? Be funny if I do it and they give me December 2013 as they go by calender year.

Second question, anyone had any issues (or luck) with the discounts, free additional driver, free weekend hire and car upgrades while overseas? Seems to be a bit hit and miss depending who I talk too or what their website tells me. I am up to four unique answers.

I can't really help, but will add that my status match is taking forever. I applied a month before I went to Europe to compare to hertz (I get a corporate deal through them), but it didn't come through in time. I'm over following them up- emails & voicemails don't get returned...

I'm about to head to Europe and found the Hertz corporate rate for my university (which also includes reduced excess) lower than the Europcar discounted rate anyway (even over the weekends). I've ended up booking Hertz for for France, Germany and Iceland.

Took months for Europcar to organise for me and in the end I've not even found it useful. Can't comment on upgrades as I've never found cause to use it!

Doesn't surprise me! I got my trip in September, you reckon if I activate it now I will have it by then? Prob not

Thanks for the idea. I got my Hertz gold. just had a look in Santorini as that's my main hire and hertz dont have many options there. Prices look good for what they have.

Europcar Santorini have a Nissan Dualis (aka Qashqai) Its pretty pricey but if I can get 30% off, free weekend, free additional driver its great deal. More than some little beep beep.

I can always book it and can cancel if they dont come to the party. As long as my expiry is Dec 2014 for the elite and I havent wasted it

I originally applied for the complimentary status back in February this year, but heard nothing. After about 10 weeks, I sent them an email, and received a same day response advising that they'd upgraded my existing Privilege Club to Privilege Executive. Took about 2 weeks to get the new card, which had a Dec 2014 expiry.

It would therefore seem safe to assume that if you applied now, you would get a Dec 2014 expiry as well.

IMHO, Europcar status in Oz is managed in a very odd fashion.

Once you have it, the benefits do seem to occur (sorry, cannot help with OS), but getting it (even when you requal legitimately) seems to be constained by the fact it all revolves around just one person who manages it, who doesn't work full time and is either hamstrung by a dud computer system, or is a dill, or doesn't care, or perhaps a combination of two or more of those reasons.

Mine's taken 2 months to date. Just got the email from them last week offering to upgrade status. They promise to upgrade within 10 days of request.

Thanks for all the advice. Activated the comp upgrade. Said 20 business days, wont hold my breath. I will be generous and after 25 days I will get in touch. Any updates I will post my progress....

Activated my Privilege benefit in early April and promptly forgot about it.

Received an instructional email two months later on the 4th June - followed the process indicated and waited. A "Club" (base) card arrived Friday, not an elite card. This is backed up on line with my membership only showing base level.

Sent an email this morning: "So obviously something has gone wrong as my status has not been elevated as had been indicated in your email.".

I got sent a bog standard card about two weeks before my Elite one. They'd told me this would occur and was part of the system.

I got a bog standard card even after requalifying correctly. I lost some upgrades because of it . Then they sent me two elite cards on consecutive days.......go figure! I've been meaning to ask if two of a kind gives me multi-level upgrades .

Just means your upgrades must have a two in it, ie i20 , I am three days off re qualifying and triggering another free weekend, however currently Hertz is getting my business thanks to the Hong Kong Bonus!

Mine too ! I actually got an upgrade with Hertz to a brand new i40 in ROK on Saturday (about 180km on the clock) and it cost me a grand total of about $30! I'm not complaining (provided VS gets the points rather than VA)
