Fabulous. Well done Etihad. I wish my business didn't have to make a profit!!

Looking forward to blowing up some savings to try this at some point!

Ms Fx just saw this Etihad A380 Residence video with Dannii Minogue:
Dannii Minogue Explores The Residence - A380 - Etihad Airways - YouTube
She has done the EK A380 shower, so it looks like I'm in trouble.

BTW I don't think Etihad will have any problem keeping the Residence occupied.
The world is full of wealthy women and men who like style.
The new Lounge is also nice:

Danni Minogue in the shower. Hmmm.... Mind you, she's looking a little aged and conservatively dressed. Kylie on the other hand...

Does anyone know what height Danni is? Would the suite look as big with Clive and Gina in it (as someone else suggested)?

I think one of the reasons they picked Danni is her small frame - it makes the place look bigger. I assume the dining table folds out to be much bigger? Its barely big enough for one, let alone two.

I'm most interested to learn who the EY target customer is for The Residence. UAE residents or foreigners? I think they will have no trouble filling it on premium routes like LHR, CDG, JFK and LAX but I can't see much demand for SYD and I think The Residence will be the reason the EY A380 doesn't come to MEL as previously planned.

Interesting new products, always great to see some innovation at an airline, but two immediate thoughts off the top of my head;

I liked the separate bed and seat idea when LH introduced it, so not surprised to see it start to pop up at other airlines... But I predict that only having 2 forward facing, window adjacent, First Class seats - will become a problem for them.

I also like the refinements to the Business Class seat, but EY's new business class seat ("studio") isn't anything revolutionary (for goodness sakes, even Qantas is about to introduce a similar version of the seat on its A330s)... However, someone at EY should have taken a look over at what Oman Air is doing in Business! (As per image below)

Yes, that Oman Air picture is Business Class, not First Class (they also have a First Class).

There's 11 First Class seats. Two in The Residence and 9 suites called The Apartments.

Personal taste but I don't like the look of that Oman Air Business Class at all.

Interesting product which I would think fills a "niche" market.

ISTR the routings were also announced - LHR intitially, then MEL and SYD are on the list apparently which is great news.

Personally, i doubt it'll be available other than as a paid "seat" (ie. no points/op upgrades). They'd be crazy to devalue it that way (unless specificially targetting individuals in paid F to try and get them to buy-up on another flight).

So can VA points be used on EY A380 services ?

Availability is usually good/bad/never ?

I read somewhere that EY has started to block all FF redemptions on A380 services ?

IMHO James Hogan tries to fly the Aussie flag a lot with EY. Choosing Danni seems to be one of those acts. Just like sending the A380 to MEL/SYD. I don't think they are in the same league when it comes to premium traffic as say LHR/CDG/JFK.

I agree with your assessment.

Its just bait and wont have anything to do with the EY A380 coming to Australia, its the other seats being filled that will make or break the business case. I would not be surprised if its not used for more than 50% of the flights.
