Im considering going to CMB and looking at how to get back. Its zoned Asia 2 (35k J to Australia) while India is zoned ME (45k J to Australia). Im guessing if I leave from CMB I would HAVE to fly east (ie through KUL or HKG) transiting through the same zone to get to Australia, however if I left from India, I could come back via AUH on EY as its transiting the same zone (ME) to get home. Is this correct? I assume I can use any combo of EY/UL/QR to get from India to AUH provided I stay within the ME zone?

Checked all dates in March 2016 and availability for both AUH-JFK and JFK-AUH for 2 pax on the A380 is a big fat 0 :(
Can find seats on the 77W which is operated by: "Etihad on Jet Airways configured aircraft", whatever that means.

Etihad has leased some of those Jet Airways 777s... the same ones Thai had leased for a while. So you get the Jet Airways plane, but with Etihad product (food and bedding and amenity kits and stuff) on board.

...correct! (provided your routing via AUH has a published fare, and meets MPM etc etc)

Few people in this thread had success booking ADL-SYD-AUH to get the apartments, but is it possible to book PER-SYD-AUH-LHR? That route doesn't violate the MPM for PER-LHR, but because it's split into two awards, would the PER-SYD-AUH leg violate MPM and be an invalid routing? If so what's the best options to get to SYD? Revenue ticket in Y? Don't really want to drop an extra 17.5k miles on positioning if I can't tack PER-SYD onto the SYD-AUH-LHR awards.
Just following up on this - I can confirm that (after spending the last 50 mins on hold while the AA agent talked to the rate desk with them trying to understand why the system kept splitting the booking into two awards Intra SWP and SWP-MEI) that it IS POSSIBLE!!! Had to be entered manually by the rate desk to override the system so YMMV but I can confirm it can be done. (Hopefully not speaking too soon as it will only ticket tonight but they have taken the grand total of $156 in taxes from me - outrageous:))
I am stoked as have just landed two F Class PER-SYD-AUH-CAI for Feb next year on the A380 for 60k each. Unbelievable value and thanks to you all for your valuable posts that made it come together.
Now if AA can just figure out a solution to the complete lack of F/C availability on the US-SWP route I'll be even more in awe. I reckon all they need do is allow a Transit without stopover in Asia 1 or 2 to sort it all out - plus it encourages use of their hard product on long haul which surely must be of benefit to them vs having to pay QF for long haul award seats.

Thanks for the feedback, I was quoted 117.5k (as expected) but I didn't push them for it. I might try again tomorrow, any tips on how to get them to budge? I was thinking the "But there's no F out of Perth, what else am I supposed to do?!" angle.

Unfortunately lack of flights is not usually considered a reason for changing rules or making exceptions when it comes to award redemptions.

I'm assuming that you are stopping in middle East to be talking 100 + 17.5? - otherwise for through itin it should be 80 + 17.5 at worst? I'd suggest the call back again and try another agent option. Mine has now ticketed. I am Plat with AA so maybe got a more helpful agent - they did take a lot of time doing it and she definitely said they had to do some sort of manual override to the points deduction system. I was definitely discussing with her the fact that there was C option out of PER but no F and she agreed that it meant you had to travel to SYD or MEL to be able to take the award.

May have spoken too soon - it was showing as ticketed and now showing as on request. Called back and they have had problems - it may just be that the pricing in AUD is a problem so they have repriced back to USD and charged my "US Amex" in USD and said it should ticket in next 48-72hrs but I'm now a little less confident that it's all ok. Will update you on Monday.
Regardless I still think the 60k even for SYD-AUH-CAI is exceptional value. PER-SYD included would be cream on top.

I am wondering if the AA system is having trouble with MPM's - but I don't understand them so not sure.

Final Update - Yep it's all fallen in a heap. Adding a PER-SYD leg to these bookings pushes the routing over the IATA MPM limit. Desk confirmed that they would have ticketed it for 60k points if possible as it is ok under the award tables but the MPM issue is not overcomable. She has offered ADL-SYD as a suitable (and acceptable within the MPM rules) alternative.

There are a number of rules in place with AA... published fare, MPM and routing restrictions (transiting zones).

Sometimes not all city pairs will be able to be redeemed as a single award.

Looks like Etihad First Class via AA has gone bye bye -

Etihad First Class No Longer Bookable With American Miles? - One Mile at a Time

Hope it's just a glitch.

I spent quite some time on the phone yesterday with AA trying to find availability in F to change an existing booking. While they can't see most Guest award availability as on Etihad's website, they do see some.
It's definitely an annoying and worrying issue. I hope Etihad won't go in the SQ and LH path.
