Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

Why has there been no crashes or reports of this issue by pilots in the US where the majority of Max's are located? I suggest weather (humidity) as both Indonesia and Ethiopia are near the equator.

Lots of the USA is pretty humid too. Most likely pure random chance. I would expect that we'd be hearing about it, if it was happening to US pilots, and they were saving the day.

Could a Qantas, United, Virgin, BA pilot etc save the plane in a extremely overloaded scenario at low altitude?

Who knows? All airlines have pilots both good and not so good. And pilots have days that are better than others.

The pilot is listed as having 8000 hours of flight time, the co-pilot just 200 hours. Could this affect the crew's ability, as a unit, to deal with an emergency of this nature? (That is, would the captain be able to fully rely on the copilot or would they be essentially handling this solo... and could that make a difference?)

In many ways both of these people are low hour. 8,000 is not a huge number, and 200 is barely a blip. QF does not have FOs with such low hours, and it also restricts inexperienced pilots flying together. New captains get old FOs...

Be careful here. Technically at 7657ft 18ºc is not cool at all. In fact it's 18º hotter than ISA! At 7650ft ISA is around 0ºc.

I've never operated at that level, but even 5,000' makes a lot of difference. But, I don't see performance as being a likely player here.

I believe only 80 of the 350 737 Maxs delivered have gone to the USA.There was a link that Boeing put out about deliveries but no longer working.

Has there been any reports of them finding the various black boxes yet?

CNN just reported that both black boxes have been found. That was quick!
I thought it would be relatively quick - they probably only had to search an area 100 x 100 metres unfortunately

I don’t put much credence in eyewitness testimony as it is so often wrong but if flames were observed that would be a rather interesting spanner in the works.

True- not flying over water in this case. I got far too used to these endless searches on the bed of the ocean!
