FlexiRoam specifically advise you to manually set the APN for the country in wich you wish to use the phone.

The app provides a list of service providers by country.

And on landing in Istanbul I had to manually set the APN again...at least I knew what to do this time!

Yep, unfortunately doesn’t look like it’s one of 150 odd countries…

I couldn’t see a Rwanda Local plan on Flexiroam at all but good that you found an alternative. Actually, none of the usual suspect eSIM providers appear to support Rwanda!

We have a physical SIM for visits to family but often travel separately and keep handing the SIM over to whoever next is going up that way. If I convert that to an eSIM, can the other family members activate it when it's their turn to travel?

Some providers let you uninstall and reinstall - which presumably you effectively do getting a new phone. Some providers don’t. I believe Airalo will ditch your credit.

There‘s probably another level of apps and account security to consider. But I’d be surprised if the same eSIM can be installed on multiple phones simultaneously.

However, there’s usually no upfront or ongoing cost for many of the Data eSIM providers. So perhaps everyone just get one or more and PAYG?

More challenging if it‘s a “local” SIM that provides calls and text (as well as data). The other option is free up your physical SIM slot by switching your local Oz telco to eSIM.

The previous question begs the question how peeps are going upgrading their phones and how successful they’ve been bringing their eSIM(s) along without issue?
Note: Obviously not normally an issue with a physical SIM.

I currently have some Flexiroam (FLX) eSIMs active or soon to be activated (Global and Asia Regional) and a freebie Eskimo (Global plan) but I’m looking a buying a new iPhone soon.

I‘ve successfully deleted and reinstalled FLX eSIMs in the past, so pretty confident they’ll carry over if a delete from the old phone and install on the new phone. I just read the Eskimo FAQ that says to do similar, so happy that should be fine.

I vaguely recall my Truphone eSIM (currently not installed) transferred across in the backup when I previously upgraded. From what I’ve read, relying on that approach might not work? In fact might cause issues?

I don’t have any at the moment, but Airalo appears kill an active plan if you delete the eSIM (and it can’t be reactivated). Something to bear in mind if you have a long duration plan!

Landed in SIN and my Flexiroam SE Asia bundle wasn’t working probably. I was able to connect to the network, albeit 3G only but data wasn’t working properly. Kept getting a “PDP authentication” error.

Chatted to the helpdesk and they issued a new eSIM that is link to all my current plans and their system knows which plan to use first (eg local, regional or Global).

This is how it used to work but a few months ago, I was getting a new eSIM for each plan.

If you do not have a 28° Mastercard, look into getting one. They have no fees. They have a deal with Flexiroam where you get 14 days and 3GB per calendar year at no charge.

I have been in the USA for over a week and have had no trouble using the 14 day free Flexiroam in Cicago, Seattle, Dallas, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

In the 10 days I have used 1.3GB. I turn data off where WiFi is available.

I'm thinking of a year-long 'plan' without much data (say a GB to get me through any outage) and of course low cost.

Feasible? Suggestions for provider/plan? Ideally voice and data, but data only would do.

Of course this won't help with any merchants that will down the gurgler without their internet provider, but could get me out of a hole at the time.

Pity you’re already Telstra because they have a prepaid plan that you can also add international roaming bundles. It’s on my short list when I finally jump ship from Optus.

I have Samsung S22+ with dual sim slots. If I install an eSim, does that means that I can have 3 numbers on my phone?
At present the 2 slots are covered by a sim for work and another is for personal (both postpaid). I am thinking that if I install my personal number as an eSim, I can free up one slot for my travels i.e. buy a local physical sim at which ever country I land in.

Amaysim, an Optus subsidiary do great value annual plans and support eSIM. I have one as in a few places I go Telstra data is very slow/congested to I leave the Telstra SIM as primary voice and set the Amaysim eSIM as the data SIM. $99 a year for me.
