Hi everyone,

I'm on BA98 in April which is YYZ-LHR in F.
The aircraft is normally operated by a 744, but at times a 772 or 773 have operated it (all these aircraft are 4-class with the same F and although I prefer the 744 I am not particularly fussed if i get a 772 or 773).

However, I recently heard that sometimes, on rare occasions, a 788 operates this flight. That flight is a 3-class config with Y/Y+ and J, and no F.

What would happen to me if on the day I was flying a 788 was operating the flight ? Also worth noting that the 744 has 52 J seats and a 788 has 35 ? So if J was >80% full then there wouldn't even a spot for me in J or would BA downgrade one of the J pax to Y+ to accomodate me ?

If I accept the downgrade would I be compensated ? Would it be in the region of a thousand or so GBP a ticket ? I'd imagine that's what the fare difference would be ?

Anybody been in this sitation before ?

Thanks.

Recently there was a long thread in the "Qantas Frequent Flyer thread" about a Qantas passenger being downgraded fro business to economy. The refund was small and was based on the full fare flexible economy price on the day of the flight and what the passenger paid. Therefore the refund was much much smaller than a refund based on fare of business and similar discount Y fare on the original date of purchase.

i suggest you take screen shots of the potential cabin fares into which you may be downgrade as close to your fare purchase date as possible.

Well aware of that thread but thanks.
In the above scenario the ticket is an award ticket issued by AA but the sector in question is flown on BA metal.

Does that change anything ?

As the OP is travelling to LHR the airline will be bound by EC 261/2004 so that lengthy thread is of little relevance here.

Here's the BA comp thread on Flyertalk
