Hi there everyone!

Just a question.....the past few years that I have flown overseas (Melb Australia to the USA) I have carried an epipen (2 actually) in my carry on for an anaphylaxis related allergy. I ALWAYS get a medical certificate that states I must carry one at all times, so I am not concerned about customs etc.....I am just interested that every time my carry on has gone through the x-ray machine, the epi pens have never ever been a problem, and the bag has never been stopped and searched or I have never been asked what they are. Just curious about this....is it because they are used to seeing them and know what they are on the x-ray? :) Thanks!

I guess they are used to syringe like equipment on flights all the time. Are epi-pens mostly plastic as well?

They aren't banned items (like lighters/knives/scissors) so reason for them to be picked up.

I've only ever had a problem with them at HKG - the security staff there will sometimes insist on looking at them and taking down my flight details. I've also been asked once for a doctor's letter.

Most pax would have a note in their booking to say they were carrying one. If they are, they are then required to have a form or letter completed before they will be allowed to check in.

Everything can be abused, but I guess the terrorists haven't decided to try epi pens yet, and thus the Americans haven't intercepted any communications on them, so there's no threat.

Thanks for the replys!
Nope, never had to have a note on my reservation or fill out any paperwork! I Just make sure that I always carry a signed Drs note with letterhead. I was just curious, as I have connected through many cities and have never ever been asked about them or had to show a note. I assume that they know what they are I guess! But then when you think about it, they could be filled with anything really, that's why I was wondering why they have never checked them as well as looked at my Dr's note. Maybe I should ask my travel agent to note it on my reservation? I have never thought of doing that! :)
