I have a 2 night stay at Pullman Brisbane Airport coming up - I do this from time to time, quick trips visiting my ill sister.

Apparently, they are installing some sort of new 'system', which includes:

* Check in kiosks (human still available)

* E-mail button in the app under your reservation has been replaced with 'chat'

* I got an e-mail inviting on-line check-in, which I ignored as usual. Then, a couple of hours later, I got this:

Important! Second reminder .. Really? Ignoring the impertinence, I clicked on the arrival detail thing as advising them of this is in my interest. Well, of course it asked for all sorts of things besides arrival time - things that are none of their business. Curious as to how far this would go, I continued, and the last step was a bunch of fine print and "Please sign", with a box to sign. Dunno how that was going to be achieved as I closed it down.

Earlier in the day, I sent my customary e-mail re-iterating my room preference, only to later receive this:

No name for me or from them. Previously it would have been an e-mail with a message and name attached to which I could reply if needs be.

I've just sent a stiff message to the Director of Rooms, who I've been in touch with before ... reminding him that at a Pullman, I expect to interact with humans. Whatever it is, its just being rolled out, so hopefully they can refine things.

They have also enhanced the Exec Lounge privileges. Only 2 drinks offered in the normal window where it was previously open slather + canapes.
They copped a spray last time I rocked up. I said why wasn't I notified of this change at the time of booking as I would have gone elsewhere
I could always justify the cost of the room vs the ibis when reverse engineering the cost of the booze from the equation

Hmm going to go against the grain here and I say sometimes I prefer a self check in kiosk.

I remember staying at the Pullman King George Square once, where the check in line was almost to the door. Nothing worse than a couple of guests chatting with the receptionist, talking about sights and sounds and points of interests, joking and laughing, with a huge line behind them, when all that could be done with a concierge after.

This is especially true for an airport hotel, where I might land at 10pm, and don't want a line of people in front of me asking about where the 'executive workstation is', the parking rates, how to get to international terminal, trying to sign up for Accor etc. I just want my keys and go to my room.

I would say the Ibis next door would really benefit from some check in kiosk too. This would allow frequent travelers to skip those clueless people going through their phone for 5 minutes trying to look for their booking only to realise they booked Pullman, or vice versa.

On the flip side, everytime I stayed at Pullman BNE, it has never been that bad. I am guessing the check in gets really busy at other times.

Check-in tablets being installed at the Ibis too!

I am very particular about my room, so I always want to check exactly where the room they've given me is.
