Hi all, this will be a long one.

I'm planning to fly from Melbourne to Singapore in mid-October. I'm looking to fly with either Emirates or Singapore. Both are on the A380. Singapore is slightly cheaper at $2,750 compared to Emirates at $3,000, although I understand that you get complimentary airport transfers with Emirates, which mostly offsets the difference in ticket prices.

Another consideration is that Qantas currently have a Double Status Credits offer going, which would net 480SC points based on the above itinerary. Emirates have codeshare flights that are marketed as Qantas, but will be operated by Emirates. Total cost would be $3,150.

My questions to you all are:

1. Would you rather fly Emirates or Singapore? How do they compare in your experience?
2. Will booking the Qantas/Emirates codeshare be eligible for for Double Status Credits offer?
3. Will booking the Qantas/Emirates codeshare be eligible for the complimentary airport transfers?

If the answers to 2 and 3 are both yes, then I think going with the Qantas/Emirates codeshare is a no-brainer, but again, keen to hear your thoughts. However, if people feel Singapore would be a better option both in terms of price and experience, I will certainly consider this option.

Thanks!

From a fairly limited experience. Both SQ and EK are very good in Business.I feel a bit more hemmed in on the EK seat. Food a bit better on SQ, IFE is better on EK. Bar is a plus on EK. I prefer the vibe and service on SQ.
The current (and I believe all previous) DSC promo is only for QF-operated flights.
Not sure about the transfers

I would check the terms of the QF DSC offer. From what I understand it only applies to a Qantas marketed and operated flight so not sure if EK falls within the scope of it.

1. Both are good. SQ would edges out EK slightly, but I have a preference for its particular style of service.
2. No. The DSC offer this time round is specifically for QF metal.
3. Yes; this is actually very nuanced, see here for more details. Be absolutely sure that the booking is made on an EK flight number.

To clarify on 3 - if you book the QF flight number, then you won't get the chauffeur drive. You need to be on the EK flight number for that.

I am more of a fan of the style of the SQ cabins. The seats are love it or hate it. The service is better on SQ.

I personally prefer NOT to fly EK J. A family friend who is a very high ranking travel professionally says EK have a world class Y and F but a dreadful J. Much prefer SQ J

I've flown SQ J twice (not on A380) and EK J almost a dozen times (both on A380 and B777).

SQ's seat is much wider than EK's - I think it is only slightly wider than most PE - but EK has better IFE. Food across both airlines was about the same level of quality but I felt EK has a better variety of cuisine. Also EK has the bar.

I prefer the EK crew. Perhaps because their staff are sourced globally it seems more friendly and outgoing - and a good balance of male and female crew - whereas SQ were more impersonal and cool. I heard a lot of good things about SQ and was looking forward to the flights but in the end just wasn't that impressed as well as they made mistakes with my food and drink orders and overly apologetic. I'm a low maintenance flyer and EK's vibe and service style suits me better but you may prefer a different style. Always enjoyed my flights in EK J, and chatting with the staff at the bar is fun and interesting.

Both are top notch in my opinion. However I personally prefer EK due to the bar and the quality of the Entertainment. If I was also invoked with QFF it would be a no brainer.

Haven't flown EK J but if you're tall you may not like SQ's J seats - nearly all of them have a narrow foot well which isn't very comfortable if you want to stretch out or sleep.

I’m an SQ fan, but you can’t go wrong with either so choose the one that best suits your schedule and miles/status collecting.
Having been lucky enough to fly both, the Singapore version felt more private and spacious to me.
