Try the Emirates site now for $600 return economy fare, join Skywards at the same time and hope for the upgrade. Good luck:D

Emirates business is pretty nice isnt it?? how can they do this a this price?

Perhaps there are high economy bookings and selling an upgrade makes more than ending up having to do involuntary upgrades at the airport

Or perhaps business bookings for the flight are very low and they just want to make some more money. It isnt going to cost EK $175 in extra service

What would be nice for me is ift hey can offer me a nice cheap J-F upgrade in 2 weeks time on SYD-BKK and back

Have heard of this happening before, one of my colleagues was offered same on MEL-SIN on EK back in July. Appears whY cabin was bursting at the seams, but some empty seats in J cabin. $175 cash is better for EK than upgrading someone for free. No different to stories of QF ringing people offering points upgrades on ineligible fares on specific flights.

I suspect this is the case. These flights are often overbooked in Y, and have light bookings at the pointy end.

I have been op-upped twice myself, and heard many stories of other's getting op-ups on this sector.

It would be better from their point of view to charge (cash or points) for the upgrade, rather than having to give it away for free.

I suspect we may see more of this practice of offering to 'buy' upgrades on heavily overbooked sectors in the future.

Gday all, thinking of booking for next wed-friday and flying back tues - thurs to surprise the wife for her birthday.Any ideas of when the best day/time to fly to have the best chance of being offered upgrade.I've just joined skywards and am just waiting to hear all is sweet from the Boss before I book!! Thanks in advance Peeps for any tips:D

There are seats available for all the dates you have listed. For 2 adults economy MEL to SIN the price is $1198.82. There is only 1 flight a day at 1855 ex MEL. Maybe ring Emirates and ask them how the loads are on the flights. Happy birthday to your wife and I hope you get the upgrade.

Yes, I am hoping the same. If you are on the flight Saturday night come and say hello to 11J and K.

I'm leaving tonight. Was just upgraded to F at checkin, hopefully you will have as much luck. :)

They really have weird pricing. Crazy specials mentioned above, yet when I check them, all through early-mid January they're showing $10,000 return from Syd, Mel or Bne to Sin.

No wonder they have to offer fantastic specials at times, since they won't sell any at prices like that.

When that happens, it usually means they are sold out on the MEL/BNE-SIN services (note there are never specials SYD-SIN as EK don't fly that routes). The pricing you are seeing is probably MEL/BNE-DXB-SIN !!

Yes, I'd thought that, but it appears on every entry in the whole date range grid (when you select by price) and over a number of weeks. It only gets back to normalcy in late January.

Given other airline's availability then is still decent, I wouldn't have thought they'd have sold out every day, from both BNE and MEL.

Still no word on upgrades as yet we are flying at the end of week. All will not be lost though if we don't get the offer, loads look nice and light and should have at least a couple of seats each.Anyone see any last minute rush of bookings or pitfalls with my strategy of picking us a seat each with empty ones around it? When is the latest we could expect upgrade offer ? At the airport even ? Thanks in advance peeps and hope Tba and Maggie had fun in F and J

Re: Emirates MEL to SIN

Flight was great in business class over to Singapore. Had the best FA named Nick. He was fun and fussed over us. He really made the flight for us. It was a great pity when I got what I thought was DVT after the flight over. Leg swelled up and red welt on ankle. Had to get treatment by the Raffles doctor at Changi airport before the flight home. Thankfully the ultrasound I had today showed no clot. So a warning to everyone, wear flight socks every long haul and be safe.
Coming back in economy was not so good in the packed cabin, tiny seats. The trip really dragged. How I wished I was up the front again.
