Emirates long-haul economy

Personally I think if it works for you go for it. It's not that much worse than an A330. I think they're totally overrated. But maybe I am just jaded as I find them the worst aircraft in the SQ fleet to travel in economy on. I'm on a 77W tonight on EK to CMB. First time in 2 years so will be interesting to see what my views are vs SQ 330 which I have been on a couple of times in the last month.

What about MH to KUL?
Not really. Availability does not appear on the Qantas website. I like to plan at my leisure not keep calling to try and fit the pieces of the puzzle together.

Oh RoseAnna EK was one of the first airlines to put 10 across on the 777. Sir TC in fact stated that his passengers preferred the extra pitch and the cheaper fares that 10 across gave. Then other airlines got into the act an the rest is history.

Really? They must have bribed the skinny-mini customers they asked that question *lol* I am by no mean oversized in any way but I could hardly squeeze into one of the seats on China Southern. Guess I will stick to SiA then as long as they keep the decent seats in cattle class.

Are you implying that CX A330 economy is far superior to EK 777 economy and is worth an extra 14,000 QFF points one way?

I am certainly not worried about Air Asia flight. They are fine if they don't crash.

And as it so happens I have found availability on QF128 for the return leg. Don't know why I am procrastinating. Is there likely to be another 35% discount on award flights or earn SCs? Both fairly important at this stage in the game.

What is this 35% discount?

Ok. Live from an EK 777. This is no SQ. Put it this way on SQ 777 in an aisle seat I can comfortably rest my "inside" arm between my body and the armrest. On this bird my arm rests on the armrest and spills over the space of the next seat (thankfully an empty seat beside me). Probably slightly narrower than 330 too but not by much. Also FWiW similar size to TG /UA 787.

Legroom not really consistent with the alleged 32" either. And of course obligatory recliner in front of me .... before doors are closed even...

Can just use BAs site to check availability online and only call once to book and ask for the phone booking fee to be waived.

Don't MH redemptions cost more than EK redemptions due to being in the more expensive redemption table? i.e. 35,000 points instead of 28,000 for SYD-KUL-BKK.

Can't get to BKK on 28,000 QFF points unless you go direct.

EK to KUL, 3K to SIN and CX to BKK is 38,000 QFF points.

OK. So I have booked the EK MEL-KUL on the 777 for September.

I can pre-allocate 18H which is second row of economy. Can't get to any exit rows and all bulkheads appear to be bassinets.

Is there anyway of getting to that exit row before check-in?

I flew an EK 777 DXB-LIS-DXB a couple of weeks back. Both ways we had the first of the three rows of two at the back. There's quite a chunk of room because of the kink in the aisle, and because these rows are angled slightly, the window seat gets a few centimetres of extra legroom.

Downside is that you are at the back of the plane, and they named it the 777 because of how many pax it carries, I think.

Not aware of being able to get the exit row before presenting yourself at the airport to check in.

Also, keep an eye on the loadings (and whether anyone occupies the seat next to you), if the plane is not full you probably do not want to be in the second row of economy (it's more likely to fill up with back cabins empty ).

Shame Qantas couldn't negotiate anything with the Emirates partnership. It would be nice to be able to allocate a bulkhead seat.

I shall keep an eye out. Think flight is during school holidays so expect flight to be full.

I have quite a bit of experience with this, having previously been an EK Gold FF for many years.

If it were me, I'd select an aisle seat (or window if you prefer) in the first row of 2-seaters at the back, and when checking in (very early) ask nicely for an exit row seat (but beware a middle seat). The 2-seaters do tend to get snapped up quickly however.

With EK status I could sometimes get them to block out a middle seat if the flight wasn't entirely full, but YMMV.

One of the things that annoys me about the SQ flights is the massive IFE boxes under the seats that seatguru fails to mention. I always forget which plane I was on (332/777) and which seats were affected by the time I'm selecting seats for the next flight. It's been a while since I flew EK 777 but I had a feeling they had something similar.

I don't think EK allocate exit rows to anyone before check in. It's not the QF pax missing out.

I thought I had chosen seats for EK A380 flight SIN-MEL in August but looks like I haven't.

Relatively busy economy cabin. I can have 42H (2nd row economy) or 67G bulkhead which is next to bassinet. The bassinet doesn't worry me but what is the likelihood of losing 67G. It would appear 67F is bassinet and 62DE are just bulkhead seats but both seats occupied. There appear to be 7 bassinets seats and all available.

If you can select a seat on an Emirates flight you won't lose it. But either way, you're likely to have very young children around you.

Not the end of the world. Put the headphones on and watch movie/play games and fall asleep. Both flights red-eyes.
