Emirates today has announced that it’ll be adding 3 new destinations at in Winter 2012 while expanding operation to Perth. Reservations for these new flights are now open as of 1400hrs GMT

No surprise there. Emirates going to 3x daily to PER has been a given for ages (most of the geeks here couldn't shut up about it). They've got pretty high loads out of here, and a spacious lounge which they've had since starting service which is still under utilised.

The smart money right now also has EK being the first A380 customer ex-PER as soon as T1 Pier 1 is opened.

Did the story in The West on Saturday mention that an EK A380 would be used into PER?

EK406 DXB-MEL (5 July departure) is diverting to Perth due to a medical emergency. The airport has apparently been closed to all other traffic until the aircraft has landed. It's showing an arrival time of 0100 and a departure from Perth of 0200. Flightstats is showing a delay of 145 minutes which would presumably impact on passengers continuing to AKL.

MH, NZ and SQ departing flights would appear to be impacted.
