I am trying to change my seat for the following flights, however it isn't letting me do it. When I go into my emirates booking and click a seat it says "Sorry this is unavailable" and on checkmytrip.com it is greyed out. My flight leaves in the evening on Sunday 1st November. Im in Y. Any ideas, as well as things to do in Dubai on my 5 hour layover?

EK407 Melbourne>Dubai
EK261 Dubai>Sao Paulo

Thanks

Cant help with the seat selection, but what's the flying time MEL-DXB-Sao Paulo? I would have thought SYD-EZE-Sao Paulo would be better (albeit maybe not by that much).

Five hours isnt much in Dubai, i'd relax at the airport. There's a couple of good bars (the "Irish" one isnt bad) and enough shopping.

The airport hotel (inside the terminal so you dont have to enter dubai) will rent out showers (where the pool is - it was closed for repairs when we were there 4/10/09) are very clean and well stocked with amenities so i'd be having a shower there if you dont have lounge access. $14pp and you can take as long as you want - its in the middle of the terminal so easy enough to find (there are signs).

If you want to get out of the airport, 5hrs wont be much time - maybe head to the old harbour or one of the malls (can go by the new train - it's very effieicnt and airconditioned) but by the time you lose time to get out and have to re-checkin etc, I cant imagine it's really worth it.

I agree 100%, pitty the silly folk in the Oslo head office have troubles booking flights properly (last time they sent me through the US to get the Rio - took 38 hours). I even emailed them and gave them those flight numbers (through EZE), it was too late and they had already ticketed the Emirates flight  I will definitely have a shower in Dubai, I am actually ending up in Rio (have a domestic leg from Sao Paulo to Rio). Its about 32 hours of flying.... Thanks for the help, guess I will just have to get my seats at check in.

Have you got a skywards account? pre-selection in economy is available to members ( even basic blue ) ( plus of course you will earn around 15,000 points each way in economy and attain silver status )

I just joined skywards and added my membership number to my booking. Still get this message when selecting a seat

  • Sorry, we are unable to save the changes. Please check all information and try again.
*EDIT* I gave Emirates Melbourne a call and requested my seats, all fine, the guy was very helpful. Good customer service, no long waits on the phone. Happy so far.

Yes they are helpful, and give you good advice on the best seats.

Compare with SQ, no pre seat assigment at all and treat you as something the cat brought in.

I am 2MM with UA, and EK post their miles within a couple of weeks, all booking classes.

Try that with SQ.

All I can suggest is that because its 48 hours from departure they've likely closed online seat selections..not saying thats it, but its the most likely cause I can think of.

MEL-DXB-GRU-GIG = 15302 miles = a bloody long haul even in F, let alone whY:shock::evil: (pity there's no emoticon for "I'm about to hang myself").

MEL-SYD-EZE-GIG = 9004 miles = still a long way but nowhere near as bad.

 Trust me, the thought has crossed my mind. If I can do 36 hours on United through the US to get to Rio I should survive 32 on Emirates  Lots of sleeping and reading, no chance of me getting bumped up since I have no status - maybe I should start crying at check in

SQ do allow seat assignment online, but I'm not sure about the call centre.
