Interesting article in today's SMH about Emirates FF program possibly folding as a result of the Qantas/Emirates alliance. Would be interesting to see what, if any, it has on the QFF program.

smh.com.au/business/emirates-faces-frequent-flyer-fall-20130605-2npb3.html

Emirates president Tim Clark concedes that his airline's frequent-flyer scheme in Australia could become a "casualty" of its extensive alliance with Qantas.
The prospect of Emirates' Skywards members switching to Qantas will be a further boost to the size of the latter's frequent-flyer scheme, which stands at about 9 million members.
Describing Qantas as a "neat fit", Mr Clark also made clear that Emirates is unlikely to replicate its alliance with another airline elsewhere in the world.

Of course, the advantage in being with QF isnt just for domestic Aus, but global Oneworld for areas not served well ex-Aus by EK/QF (east coast usa being one example, and intra-sth america flights) where OW tier is more use than EKS.

Maybe Emirates sees the value that Qantas have leveraged out of QFF and either can't be bothered or are unable to replicated such an outcome. And as docjames said, with QF being part of oneworld rolling Skywards into QFF allows EK to give its frequent flyers the oneworld benefits without the oneworld membership.

It could also be that EK are going to roll all Australian based Skywards members into QFF like BA did back in 2003 with their Executive club members.

Sorry, but I don't see anywhere in that article the suggestion that Skywards would "fold" into QFF - I see a reported migration of individual members over to QFF.

It would be interesting to see whether those are infact migrations or merely a trend of members of both schemes crediting QFF for EK flights.

Anyone on here confess to jumping over to QFF - and why??

Regards,

BD
