Emirates Delays/Cancellations

B773ER A6-EGF on the 0330 hours MEL - KUL on Tuesday 5 January did not take off until 0540, meaning a probable arrival at around 1000, an hour and three quarters late.

On Sunday 10 January, EK405, the 1900 hours evening flight from MEL to SIN did not depart until 1950. Arrival is suggested as 43 minutes late at 0018 on Monday 11.

The Monday 18 January MEL arrival of EK406 (A380 A6-EDO) ex DXB has been delayed from 0635 to about 0735. The 'tag flight' to AKL is expected to depart at about 0845 instead of the usual 0810.

EK412, the 1015 DXB - SYD on Tuesday 19 January did not take off until 1150 and will be at its gate in SYD at about 0800, an hour late. A380 A6-EEL is operating the flight. The 0845 hours scheduled extension of the flight will be late deparing SYD for AKL.

EK406, the Tuesday 16 February arrival in MEL from DXB touched down at 0711 instead of its 0635 at gate arrival, but has been delayed more with the 0810 hours 'tag flight' to AKL not supposedly taking off until 1030 although that latter time has come and gone.

EK406's tag flight on Thursday 18 February from MEL to CHC is delayed in departing from the usual 0810 hours to 0855. It earlier arrived in MEL 38 minutes late at 0713 ex DXB.

Further north, EK418, the 1930 Wednesday 17 redeye from BKK to SYD did not take off until 2049 and even with padding in the timetable is likely to arrive in SYD at about 0935, 50 minutes late on Thursday 18. Like many other aircraft it is in a holding pattern above Maitland, Hunter Valley NSW.

The Sunday 21 February 2016 0845 hours SYD to AKL, EK412, has a lengthy delay today with departure not expected until 1415 this afternoon, five and a half hours late. Arrival should be around 1900 hours. On Saturday 20 February, instead of departing DXB at 1015, it left at 1658 hours.

The SYD - CHC EK418 is also delayed, in its case from 1015 to 1130 in departing.

EK412 arriving SYD on Monday 22 February was not nearly as late as yesterday but nonetheless did not arrive until 0754 hours, 54 minutes behind time.

However, it then struck a major delay and did not depart SYD until 1221 (timetable says 0845 hours) so it is forecast to arrive in AKL at 1637 instead of 1400 hours.

Not a good look on two consecutive days, and an ongoing risk if one chooses to fly EK across the Tasman, particularly eastbound as the schedules have quite some hours allowed in NZ - hence the chances of late running westbound back to Oz's east coast are reduced.

CI appears to be more punctual than EK for 'out of town' airlines across to the land of the long white cloud.

EK413, the Monday 29 February 1830 hours from AKL to SYD departed at 1948. It should arrive at 2054, 49 minutes behind time. This 'tag flight' forms the 2146 to DXB that will be late departing SYD, although it should depart before the 2300 hours curfew.

EK407 from AKL to MEL has fared worse. It is timetabled to depart at 1850 but has been delayed until 2250 NZ time with arrival suggested as 0030 on Tuesday 1 March instead of 2050 hours on Monday evening. In turn, this flight forms the 2225 hours to DXB that has been altered to depart at 0215 on Tuesday according to Google but an impossible 0155 hours departure according to QF.

Once again EK412 was late, departing SYD on Tuesday 1 March at 0939, 54 minutes behind time. It arrived in AKL 45 minutes late at 1445.

Down south, EK406 departed MEL 36 minutes late at 0846, arriving AKL at 1408, 23 minutes late.

On Monday 7 March, EK406 (0810 hours MEL to AKL) took off at 0913. It should arrive 44 minutes behind time at 1429. Aircraft is A380 A6-EOC.

The Thursday 10 March arriving in SYD EK412 (A380 A6-EEL) was badly late, having arrived at 1135 instead of 0700 hours. The so-called 'tag flight' on to AKL is expected to depart at 1245 (but had not by 1253.) It can often pick up a bit of time across the Tasman. EK itself suggests arrival as 1748.

EK413, the 1830 AKL to SYD will be late, as will its scheduled 2145 hours departure from SYD this evening. If things turn bad it could miss curfew with passengers, crew and the aircraft stuck overnight in SYD.

EK406 from DXB arrived in MEL at 1026, three hours and 51 minutes late. Its continuation to AKL is taxiing at 1245 with arrival estimated as 1756 late this afternoon.

EK407 from AKL to MEL will be delayed as it is due out at 1850. A realistic departure would be 1940 for a 2130 hours arrival, in turn delaying the timetabled 2225 departure of the same flight until about 2315.

On 10 March another very late arrival was EK404 from SIN and before that DXB, with MEL arrival at 1332 rather than 0850 hours: more than four and a half hours late.

The weather reports rarely give a complete, localised picture and as many of us know DXB can have fog or sandstorms but many flights are presently badly late. Is it weather or some other reason more connected with EK itself?

"On 9 March, the UAE experienced a severe thunderstorm which led to widespread damage and flooding. Public schools have been closed and there are reports of flight delays. It is expected that severe weather will continue for several days. We recommend that Australians in the UAE stay indoors during severe weather and monitor the media for the latest information. Please take care if driving. The level of the advice has not changed. We continue to advise Australians to exercise normal safety precautions in the UAE."

Thank you kallinch. Much appreciated: great information from the Commonwealth Government's 'smart traveller' site.

One might think that a properly run airport would have a notice up on its website about this. As far as I can see, this is not the case.

More evidence (not that much more is needed) as to how DXB is grossly inferior to SIN Changi, ICN in South Korea and HKG in the Special Administrative Region to name three.

The delayed EK413 (late due to previous events - see above) on Thursday 10 March is taxiing in SYD at 2250 (it is timetabled to depart at 2145 hours) in the form of A380 A6-EEL. DXB arrival on Friday 11 should be at about 0600 hours, 40 minutes late.

More significant late running on Friday 11 March with EK412 (A380 A6-EEK), the 0845 hours 'tag flight' from SYD to AKL delayed until a forecast 1310 hours in its departure.

This is because EK412 had diverted to CMB for a medical emergency. It had departed DXB 50 minutes late at 1105 on Thursday 10 March, arriving CMB at 1836 and departing at 2017. SYD arrival is predicted as 1149.

At least this gives a practical idea of the flight duration were any airline such as UL (which historically has been unprofitable) to commence often discussed but yet to materialise nonstop Australia - Sir Lanka flights.
