Hi all, I'm continuing in my series of flight reports combining my love of flying and visiting New Zealand.
I picked up cheap flights with Emirates (but on a Qantas flight number which has just allowed me to reach OneWorld Sapphire) and since I haven't tried them before, I jumped at them.
The lounge in Sydney is pretty good although the lack of a barista was noticed!! The whole boarding process worked well with no queue for business/first passengers although the staff did have to redirect some Y pax who lined up next to me (I'm still surprised that I see Y pax attempt to board in the premium lanes every time I fly, even though there's announcements and multiple signs).
The FAs were friendly and the seat was great. There's plenty of privacy (my only other proper long-haul J flights have been with Qantas with their Skybed (mk1 and 2) and the IFE screen is huge. There's plenty of storage too. The woodgrain hasn't aged well, but otherwise, it's a really good product.
The food was good, as were the drinks. I visited the bar for a few minutes although returned to the comfort of my seat to settle down and watch a few TV shows.
Overall, it's easily the best trans-Tasman business class option. The only negative is that it leaves Sydney fairly early (0845) which makes for an early start if you allow plenty of time for customs...etc.
Here's a video I put together:
