Probably because EK is not an Australian airline. QF is by far the biggest operator in the Australia market and by virtue of that it is bound to attract more media attention.

So Australian journalism cares more about attacking an Australian company rather than reporting on how many Australian lives could have been lost on a foreign airline? Every story showing Qantas in a bad light puts more Australians on foreign carriers that might not be as safe as Qantas. The incidents with EK alone are shocking, yet they've had no light shone on them.

This journalism bashing is boring. And the picture thing has come up again! They used a file picture of a qantas aircraft instead of a picture of the type of aircraft involved in the story. So What!!! Does the story say here is a picture of the aircraft involved? No? What if they did use a picture of an A380. Will there be people complaining that it is the wrong A380? It wasn't Reg Ansett it was ..... Because that is an extension of the point about using a picture of the wrong aircraft type.

How about this idea? Write a letter to the editor and ask why they haven't reported about the EK near misses that had the potential to kill hundreds.
