Hi all

I rarely fly the Emirates 777 (try to avoid) but have 5 flights coming up in quick succession... all in J and flying solo as for work.

I prefer having access to the aisle to go and wander around if I get bored and need to stretch and also to get things out of my bag in the overhead so I can work, but I’m a little worried about being constantly clambered over if I take an aisle seat, so I was thinking of selecting a window seat...

Any advice on aisle v window?

Is it easy for a window seat person to hop over the aisle seat person without disturbing too much if they are asleep / eating etc? Like the Skybed on Qantas there was a handle you can grab to step over the aisle person quite easily - does that apply to the Emirates 777?

My boss has suggested to go for an aisle seat in the middle bank of 3 and hope the middle J seat stays free....

Thanks for your thoughts!

I agree with your boss, and even if not remaining free then there’s also a chance that the pairs is shared by a couple , thus might not clamber over you. Even if occupied by two strangers there’s a 50:50 chance they will clamber over you versus other side (and in fact I have a hunch if you sit on the right side of the middle bank of 3 the odds might even be more in favour of people clambering over the person on the other side - I notice people tend to head towards left side of plane).

Thanks for your thoughts... I’m leaning towards your suggestion apart from on one of the 5 hour legs which I think I can manage on a window :)

I’m looking at seat maps now before making the final decision. Wondering if I should pick the aisle seat on a middle bank of 3 that already has the other aisle seat taken - knowing that the middle seat should be the last to be selected....

That's always my strategy when in that configuration. Even if middle is occupied and isn't with other aisle seat, if you are asleep, or with laptop etc, they may choose to clamber over the other side.

Agree with the above.
And if it's the three class version, I'd further suggest going for the forward mini cabin with just two rows.
Then enquire at check-in about the front row which is usually blocked until then.

I really don’t know how Emirates feels it can still get away with the 2-3-2 J configurations on their 777. Every other quality airline is moving to direct aisle access.

Sorry if I sound a bit negative but I hated the 777 Emirates J seats - I'd flown F on the way over on the 777 but on the way back from DXB to ADL the service was bad, no PJs - :(

Thank goodness we get the re configured 777 out of Adelaide - 2x2x2. We’ve gone for the 2 middle seats so we don’t clamber over anyone and vice versa.

Thanks good tip I didn’t know that! Try to avoid these aircraft...

I don’t love them either but no choice on these flights!

Reporting back on seat selection thanks for all your input.

777 flights
Flight 1 9k (cabin full will try at airport to move)
Flight 2 9k (cabin full will try at airport to move)
Flight 3 2f (2 class 777)
Flight 4 7f

Let’s see how I go...
