Listening to 3aw (on the internet) and they are reporting that a plane has blown a tyre on take off and is preparing for an emergency landing. Reported that ten fire trucks on scene.

No information as yet as to where the plane was heading or the airline.

Hope all are ok and that it doesn't delay me flying there later this morning.

Would imagine there will be the usual media jackals asking questions "like how did you feel?" "Were you scared?" etc.

Just reported it was a DJ flight to SYD, 79 pax on board and all safe.

Apparently the aircraft involved was an Embraer 170 which burst a rear tyre on take off ,returned to the airport and landed with no incident.
No injuries which is good news.

Does this mean it had to dump fuel prior to landing?
An E-170 does not have the capability to dump fuel. It is unlikely that it would have been above max landing weight under the circumstances. In an emergency, it is possible for some aircraft to land above max landing weight, but does result in the need for special checks to ensure no damage was inured.

The reason some airliners dump fuel if returning for an emergency landing is to get the aircraft weight down below max landing weight as many long-haul aircraft can have a max takeoff weight that exceeds max landing weight.

Any word on why the blowout ? FOD ?
Latest I have is that just after lift off there was quite a loud bang and severe vibration felt throughout the cabin.
Perhaps crazydave98 could enlighten us if he has more information?

Oh I can't wait for no-news's version of events. Near death stories expected!

On another note was this a Mel - Syd flight? I didn't realise DJ had downgraded to running the E-jets on this route? Obviously not all flights...
I believe that they are using the E's in morning and afternoon peak services, which to me indicates the level of decline in bookings they must be seeing,on a related point I was under the impression that DJ were going to release details of the routes they were going to cut capacity on the same day they released their profit figures, have I missed something in the last two days ?
