I have several oneworld flights in J coming up for work, which should get me to exactly 700 SCs for Qantas Gold, however I am concerned about reaching 4 eligible sectors. The upcoming flights are:
  • SCL to SYD via AKL on QF322 (LATAM metal)
  • SYD to MEL on JQ (with MAX to get 20 SCs)
  • MEL to LHR via HKG and HEL on AY
I have one existing eligible sector.

My questions are:
  • Will QF322 count as 1 or 2 sectors (2 flights but 1 flight number)?
  • If just 1, any suggestions for an alternative program to credit these flights to achieve oneworld Saphire?
I am currently based in London, so won’t have any opportunity to fly QF or JQ before the end of my membership year. I did consider breaking up the SYD to MEL flight (e.g. by flying via Adelaide), but it’s not desirable from a cost and time perspective.

Would appreciate any input, and apologies if this has been covered previously (in which case my searching skills are clearly not up to scratch!)

QF322 is the codeshare on LA801.

It will be treated the same way as QF11/12 to JFK via LA, QF9/10 to LHR via PER or QF1/2 to LHR via SIN. 1 sector for SCL-SYD, unless there is a stopover in AKL.

Thanks Himemo! Looks like I'll fall just short.

Any suggestions for an alternative program (status challenge?) that might get me to OW Sapphire?

Rebook the SCL-SYD into two legs with the AKL-SYD leg on a different flight number.

Which carrier is your MEL-HKG flight on?

Either way, if you're based in London, BAEC is certainly worth a look.

Thanks all!

MEL HKG is on CX (AY flight number). Unfortunately it looks like routing via Brisbane or Sydney is significantly more expensive. Will look into crediting to BA

I understand that breaking up the SCL-SYD is very expensive. I would have thought that by far the easiest thing to do would have turned that SYD-MEL leg into two flights (ie via BNE or ADL) rather than just the single sector. But I also understand that doing costly things to attain Gold may or may not be attractive. And being based in England, well, perhaps Qantas should be your last choice for a program :)
