Have never shown any interest in membership status levels given the family only ever uses FF points and make bookings with airlines based on availability.
My eldest daughter somehow reached silver which then got my interest up when she got to 510 status credits without going to gold level. Advised she had flown only three of the four eligible sectors necessary. Given she had gone to NY and also Melbourne a few times (back unfortunately once with QF), I asked how could this be?
Advised eligible sectors must be on VA metal and also a VA ticket. Despite the leg to LA being VA metal, being on a DL issued ticket meant it also did not receive eligibility.
Same deal will occur with our July flights with EY on their ticket and metal. Ces't la vie.

A quick VA flight would fix that, worth it in the case of Gold I would have thought, the extra points earn would make up for the points spend on a reward flight before June 30 that would count I suspect.

Gold is definitely worth it, the main benefit being lounge access

Cheers for the assistance. She might go for that given she fly's domestic and also the odd business related flight. Is reward flight eligibility a once off deal ending 30 June?

Before June 30 you get SCs, but looking at the T&Cs probably still does not count:

Eligible Sector means a flight journey, from an origin to a destination:
(a) that has been flown;
(b) that has been purchased using cash or an Accepted Payment Card;
(c)(i) (for a flight journey flown prior to 13 January 2013) that has not been purchased in whole or in part using Points; or
(ii) (for a flight journey flown on or after 13 January 2013) that has not been booked as a Reward Seat;
(d) where Virgin Australia is the marketing carrier (this means that the flight number starts with a DJ or VA prefix).

:evil:

All award sectors I have taken since late January have all earned SC's, no points and counted as eligible sectors.

This is mentioned in the specific thread and confirmed by the accredited Velocity representative.

What is she waiting for? Use some points to do a quick return to CBR (etc.)

Assuming she'd be out of SYD, the cheapest fares on offer at the moment are $79 one way to OOL and BNK. $160-odd to get to Gold? Definitely worth it. And hey, why not make it a weekend by the beach.

Edit: just noticed that the SC promotion does include eligible sectors (per above posts). That'd be the better option - get some serious value out of those points!

OT but have to ask the question in the context of OOL, what beach?

If airport proximity is important, Coolangatta and Rainbow Bay are lovely, less busy than the guts of the Gold Coast. Though as I'm not much of a swimmer (and even less of a surfer), I'm probably more inclined to rate by the general atmosphere (if that's even the right term for a beach!) of the place than its aquatic qualities!

Edit: of course, there are plenty of other options on the coast, depending on what your're after...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

+1 to this, all my reward flights last weekend counted towards eligible sectors. All have posted with the relevant SC earn.

The words "Hook, line and sinker" spring to mind EvanC.

I think our illustrious leader, markis10, may have had tongue firmly in cheek and referring to the GCs lack of beaches of late. I think they reside somewhere between here and Fiji! ;)

Thanks for all the help. Would never have thought reward flights would do it. The girls decided on a day out in Melbourne next Saturday, Y down and J back for 43K points.
I think though this has created a monster I will be unable to control!! :shock:

The reward flights counting bit is likely to end when the promo ends on 30 June.

Whoops! :oops:

So... I shouldn't plan a trip there any time soon? :D
