Eligible SC(~) vs Ineligible SC?

Since discovering AFF, I've become a lot more conscious of my SCs and points. Can someone explain to me why Qantas even bothers tracking ineligible (e.g. non-~) SC? I fly throughout the region for work and frequently find myself on CX. While it is clear to me that the points can be used for future JASAs (booked my first one last night!), it is less obvious what an ineligible SC does. Unfortunately, I am required to book through a travel agency for work, so don't always get to choose QF or a high enough class fare on OW. Apologies if this is explained elsewhere. I tried searching but only came up with questions on hitting the required 4 eligible segments. Thanks!
 
The ~ simply means that the flight counts towards the minimum 4 QF segments required to retain your status. Nothing more, nothing less.

Flights without the ~ still earn points and SCs as posted.

The ~ also counts towards to the 2700 QF SC requirement for P1 - the non ~ SC count towards the total requirement of 3600 SCs.

For example on my path to P1 I have 2700+ QF SCs (due to both flights and double SC promos) and about 1,200 of non ~ SCs.

For example on my path to P1 I have 2700+ QF SCs (due to both flights and double SC promos) and about 1,200 of non ~ SCs.
I think that some SCs not bearing the ~ also count towards the 2700. For example, QF DSCs. There may be other categories, too.

Status credits for this flight are not included in the current year total. They were discount economy BA flights and she seems to have points for them. I am being lazy here as I am sure I could find the info, but does it mean that because they were discount flights on another carrier that no status credits are awarded, or is there another meaning.? Thanks!

It is often a sign that the flight itself took place in a previous membership year.

For example consider the situation where the flight is in August and your membership year also expires at the end of August. If the credit comes through in September, then the Status Credits for that flight will be part of the previous year, and so do not count to the current year. This may be the case here.

indicates these were earned in the member's previous Qantas Frequent Flyer "year" and will not count toward this year's qualification.

I would guess Dr FM's "Year" goes from September to August?
