Yes, we can't argue with that (apart from the $50 a pop fee), but truly the main problem currently with the EES is the fact that each country has implemented its own version (as directed by the useless EU). So it works to some degree in some countries, while others have just given up.

If it was working as advertised by the EU, there wouldn't be such a problem. First timers would register with their fingerprints and photo at the kiosk or booth, and then sail through the e-gate. On subsequent exits and entries, they would just use the e-gate.

We wish.

And why use Indonesia as an example of how to do it well? Surely Singapore (and even Malaysia) is much better?

I thought all first timers, once fingerprinted, still had to see an officer? After they’ve seen an officer, subsequent visits are egates?

It’s the double processing - fingerprinting then seeing an officer - that seems to be causing delays?

As I posted upthread, when I arrived in Amsterdam 3 weeks ago, I went to an empty booth, registered my finger prints and photo with my passport...then straight out through the autogates. All up took less than 10 mins.

Unfortunately the system could not register +1s fingerprints, so she had to be manually proceesed, which took about 45 mins...and I had to wait for her

It’s the dodgy terminals that aren’t working for all - apparently finger prints are problematic (as @kpc posted as I type).

It’s not just Indonesia that’s pretty seamless now. UK has worked with eGates for ages. Uruguay was seconds visiting last year.
