"Starting from 2024"
Starting date will be announced later this year:"Starting from 2024":
What is ETIAS
The rules of travel to Europe have changed. Starting in mid-2025, some 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries are required to have a travel authorisation to enter most European countries.travel-europe.europa.eu
Postponed to mid-2025:Starting date will be announced later this year:
Key differences between ETIAS and the EES
The European Union is preparing for the launch of two new border management initiatives: the European Travel Information and Authorisation System and the Entry/Exit Systems. How are these two systems different?travel-europe.europa.eu
The longer the delay to the start date, the better imo!Postponed to mid-2025:
ETIAS
Official EU website on ETIAS, the new travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers to enter 30 European countries. Applications should be filled in this website from mid-2025.travel-europe.europa.eu
I thought that there already is a $20 fee?Yes indeed. But apart from the minor cost, it won't have much impact on me.
With both Australian and UK passports I could (if I wanted to, but I don't) legally stay in Europe permanently (with a minor cross border trip every 3 months).
However, I do strongly feel that Australia should charge a token amount (eg $20) for issuing it's ETA's. The argument that it might put prospective visitors off is nonsense. If you're going to spend $000's on your ticket you're not going to worry about an extra $20.
Not necessarily, as it could speed up processing at the EU border and allow use of the e-Gates. Currently non-EU passport holders need to queue to get a stamp. The longer the delay to the start date, the better imo!
That's correct. Australia charges $20 AUDI thought that there already is a $20 fee?
If, and a big if, ETIAS allowed use of e Gates that would be great but I wouldn't hold my breath....Not necessarily, as it could speed up processing at the EU border and allow use of the e-Gates. Currently non-EU passport holders need to queue to get a stamp
Not to mention the Australian Departure Tax (Passenger Movement Charge) - going up to AUD70 next July. That's correct. Australia charges $20 AUD
