Hi Guys,
Hope this is helpful, and not too long winded - but came across a way to put a rocket under ones status credits with EK.
I was sitting on 34k status credits with EK, wanting to find a way on my current BNE-SIN return flight to hit the 50k required to make Gold - even if combined with the 5k of status credits I was in line to achieve in November. However needing 10.5k SC to achieve this, and a flexi Y ticket BNE-SIN return delivering only 10k, I was left scratching my head how to make the last 500 SC I required. While a J ticket would do the job gaining 16,000 SC, the $3,600aud price tag was a bit rich for my budget for such a pitiful increase in miles gained.
I will add I was trying to achieve Gold before the end of November to lounge it up with my wife when traveling in December/January in Y on EK as already booked always was inevitable, just more a matter of when rather than if.
After trying a number of options, I put in what one would get on a flexi Y return fare AKL-SIN - and up came 25,900. Further it was marginally cheaper to fly.
So I played around with it a bit and learned a lot - and a few loop holes I will try later, but ended up booking for $3k NZD Flexi J fare ALK-BNE (13th) & BNE-SIN (24th), coming back on a Y Saver fare SIN-BNE (6th) & BNE-AKL 9th - with this fare gaining me just shy of 30k SC on the single itinerary - not to mention overall 49k miles.
Also putting me into Gold in October, and having 15k SC in November to go towards retaining status in 12 months - as I cannot see myself getting close to Platinum - but I could give it a good crack if I wanted to try.
For me, I fly the Tasman with EK BNE-AKL almost monthly and is a standard trip - and all my flights with EK on the Tasman originate in NZ already, so for me to plan a bit to book all my trips into China, via SIN as I currently do starting in AKL and ending in AKL, is not only easy, but is set to allow me to maintain Gold with EK, as I fly normally up to SIN two-three times a year as a base line.
