Just had a la carte lunch at the EK DXB Flounge ' fine dining' establishment .( they should give it a name, as I think thre are several). TR to come, but I just had to post that it was one of the best steaks I've had, anywhere, anytime ( but just a bit on the rare side for utter perfection). Fresh prawns appetiser were 10/10. White wine selection a bit disappointing, but they found a great Aussie Shiraz to go with the steak.

Even better considering my next flight is in whY on to Jordan. Thank you, QF/EK alliance!

Both lounge and terminal pretty deserted.

Just booked F SYD-MAN for next month and looking forward to it, so thanks for the post! It's just excited me even more. My only concern is how will I find room for the champers and all the F food onboard??

So that was around 10:30am?

More like 12:30pm. Did we cross paths.?

Actually, when I went down to the duty free level at abt 1:30, it was busy, but the Flounge was still pretty empty ( mind you, it is kinda large).

Training is the answer, so get guzzling

Actually, would you believe that on the EK leg SYD-DXB in F, a few days before, I didn't have a single glass of champagne, except a decadent pre take- off one at 5:30 AM. Oh, ok, it was 2. So sue me. :)

Not really, I was posting from SE Melbourne and got my Daylight savings the wrong way around.

Just trying to ascertain when the "lunch" menu may be available.

First time in the A gates EK F lounge at DXB. For those who have not been here, the F lounge takes over the whole second floor. It is pretty impressive, but very empty. Certainly no issue in getting a nice seat (unlike most QF lounges). A lot of staff, even at midnight.

Had the Lamb Shank for a mid QF9 snack. Very nice and tasty.

Meant to post this before: Plan of EK's F lounge at DXB. The legend is a bit hard to read so:

* Enter at the centre, from the bottom.
* Immediately on the left (yellow) - Spa
* Immediately on the right - medical
* Immediately ahead - reception
* Pink either side of reception - high end duty free

Other than that, the 2 sides are more-or-less symmetrical -

* Deep pink - fine dining
* Yellow/green - prayers, showers, phone, smoking (cigars to the left), toilets etc
* Dark grey - openings, look down to duty free shops below
* Light grey - top of elevators to boarding gates (BP scanning and bag search (I guess for DF liquids)

Thanks for the info RooFlyer.

If I purchase duty free in LHR will I be able to transit with it in DXB through the security point?

Security points. You go through one after arrival, even if transiting. And another 2 prior to boarding. There are some anecdotal reports that at the last checks before boarding they might box your DF for you and put it in the hold. Risky?

If its booze, I don't know for sure, but I don't think so. The carry-on bag checks (manual, moderately thorough) at the scanning point at the top of the elevators I think were looking for bottles. I think they are taken away and given back to you on arrival.

As long as I get it when I get to MEL I don't mind. I would like to grab a bottle of Pimms No 3, which isn't available elsewhere (that I have seen).

I am only transiting LHR so I won't be able to get access to the hold luggage* to stow it myself.

*Yes I know, this goes against my HLO principles - but it is only the flight coming home.

Hi Jessica

I have taken duty free through DBX after departing LHR a few times now and all that happens is that they pack it and put it in the hold for you. I sugest that when you arrive at the lounge that you let them know you have Duty Free that will need to be repacked and taken to the hold.

Enjoy

Rats. Rushed there to see if they had Taylor Fladgate port from Porto. No dice, although they do have Fonseca, I see.

Hmmm ....
Generally very resonably priced too - though my rule of thumb if not wanting something specific is to check out the sales and end of bin runs!

It is about 19:50 local in the EK F DXB lounge (A gates) and after doing a lap, staff outnumber passengers by about a four to one ratio. Although all of the space is nice, how much is all of this costing EK? Does the F lounge ever get 'busy'?

I had a very nice steak in the dining area which would leave the what I have had in the QF F lounges for dead (and a number of restaurants as well). Every meal I have had here has been excellent. The only real positive of the EK alliance so far.
