Today it took me a whole 2 hours (one on one) to explain the QF FF program to a newbie.

The newbie made it to SG and has over 1M points without any AFF assistance, status runs, complex CC points earns, and he has not bought anything from the QF store.
There must be a lot of these types of members out there just sitting in darkness not knowing how to maximise the benefits of the FF programs.

I had the assistance of a iMac and iPad

Newbie took notes

What advice can you give to make the process more efficient.

I have said he should join up to AFF and learn from the AFF brains trust

What exactly does this newbie want to know? Or what do you think they should know?
If they are happy saving for toasters, vacuum cleaners, gift vouchers etc and not concerned about flying and squeezing the most out of the program, you'd have to ask why this question, or issue, is being raised in the first place.

What seems to take the time I find is that people tend to not accept what you are trying to explain and keep reverting to rational and old ideas and so you have to explain things 3 or more times. Yesterday, I had the simple task of telling someone who was WP why/how he had been comp'ed another year's status even though he'd changed jobs and not flown for quite some time.

I'm hitting my head against wall. Same newbie who had 2 hr tutorial can't understand why there are no redemptions for dec 2014 in J to JFK for 3 pax return.

i think AFF should set up an online test so members who pass can be AFF accredited Frequent flyer experts

A bachelor = 1 FF program expert
A Master = Expert in all FF program's in an Alliance
Wizard= expert in all FF program's worldwide

To be honest, it's not really the fault of the majority of QFFF members in not understanding there are no seats available. It's not an unreasonable expectation, given the marketing hype, that seats will be available (within reason). Qantas advertised a while ago (correct me if I'm wrong) that they had over 3 millions award seats offered in a single year.

If I wasn't up to speed on the intricacies of the program, I'd probably think 'hey, that sounds good to me!'

Information about the high co-payments, needing to book at 2.00am on the 365th day out, of being in a lottery for an upgrade are all in the small fine print.

1million QF FF points?
Um? That should be a higher status than SG eh?
1m points is a lot of flying. If points are from flying.

Not really, I racked up 500,000 last year with minimal flying, maximum CC churn and spend.

I've tried and given up on trying to educate friends and all the while they can't understand why I'm in J and they are in whY. There's also some pain involved, my credit score is a bit sad ATM but it will recover in time.

Like many have said.. its really depends on what they want. When I tell my friends about flying in F from SYD-EU for 3.5k they're like :O followed by ah but economy is cheaper!

Really depends if they find value in flying F/J or if they prefer getting net gains without actually having to put out any costs eg: toaster.

There's value in one of two ways.

Either (a) the surcharge is so small that it's good value (not least of which being able to hit the ground running and get an extra day of holiday) or (b) people flying F anyway, but FF programs (miles purchase) provide a cheaper way. If you have fixed dates in mind, it makes no sense to pay TG F published fares when you can get it for a fraction through LM.

i can either pay TG their asking rate, or pay LM theirs... and buy a car on arrival back in Australia.

Some people are simply not interested in the headaches that come with chasing status and points.

There are days when I think to myself if it is all worth it....
