Yes the worlds a different place these days.

No insider comment on the quality selections of the substitutions?

The 2 main ones so far has been CX and BA. No doubting the quality of those two. Air Tahiti Nui seems to have a dated product which seems similar to the old 743 product.

I know there is a thread about it, but perhaps if QF had some magical Boeing type in their fleet, it may have helped them through this time;)

I can't believe no one has noticed that these aircraft substitutions are around the same time that Qantas is bringing Oprah's friends over here using two 747s! Qantas's 747 fleet must already be stretched because the A380s aren't back on the trans-Pacific route. Maybe Qantas needs to operate a few 747-scheduled flights with other aircraft to free up the two 747s it needs for Oprah.

Seems pretty obvious to me.

Where are you going to get these aircraft from? You have already got PER-SIN on 767 ops. Of the routes that are 747 operated currently, which ones can you swap the 747 with an A330/767?

AFAIK, Oprah's friends are arriving, spread across a couple of scheduled flights. No Special charter.

Uh... the ones talked about in this thread? QF108 and QF11/12 would be operated by a 747 but will instead be operated by an A330 and chartered A340. At least that's what I took from this thread. That's where I'm saying the 747s are coming from.

Oh. I have always read that the plan was to bring them out on a special A380 flight. Subsequently I have read they are coming on two 747s. I assumed they were two Oprah-only 747s but I could have been wrong. If they are regular flights then ignore my ramblings.

I have a feeling that the lack of 747 capacity is due to both the refit of certain a/c, maintenance and the lack of available A380's. Unfortunately there is a bit of jigging things around to ensure everything runs as close to schedule as possible.
(In saying that I am guessing, so may be wrong).

What you are saying is perfectly logical. QF would not be leasing a/c in unless they had run out of options of their own.

I still think they could use the 380s with a technical stop in either HNL or NAN and it'd majorly improve their schedule!

And yes, the oprah thing occurred to me, but as noted, split across two scheduled flights, not a charter.

We are on QF127 to HKG Friday and its changed from a 744 to an airbust 333.

I hadn't checked my booking for a long time and that was not the surprise I was looking for!

Not as bad as JFK - SYD, and at least we are in J.

Apart from a slightly longer flight time (A330 cruise speed is typically slightly slower than 744), there really is little different. The A330 IFE tends to be a little more reliable than 744, but can fail on any flight. The seats are basically the same and the A330 has no middle seats in J. Personally I would not be at all concerned with such a substitution.

Yeah I guess. Always been a bit of a "Boeing Boy" - especially the grand old lady of the sky - 747.

The flight time is not an issue for us as we have a 5 hr wait in HKG anyway.

I was originally in row 5 middle seats but changed them to 1A and B. Probably the only time in my life I will have 1A :p Now lets see if I actually get them or whether a WP bumps me.
