I just noticed that an amount of 102 points has been deducted from my Qantas FF account on 22 July by EDR.

There is no indication as to what this relates to, and I have so far been unable to get any explanation out of Woolworths.

Apart from the loss of points, this raises a major concern in my mind. How is it possible for a 3rd party (ie Woolworths) to just come along and deduct points from a member's account. To me, it seems like a potential security issue and something that is open to abuse and incompetence by organisations other than Qantas.

If this happened with my United or Emirates account I'd be horrified, but Qantas just seems quite indifferent to the situation.

Anyone else had a similar issue or is my situation unique?

Is it possible that you received too many points in a promotion from EDR?

Last year there was a promo that for some reason posted the 700 point bonus once a week for several weeks. EDR realised this, and the points were removed from the affected people's QFF account.

Some points from the last quarterly promotion were deposited twice for some people (for me it was the coffee/tea/soup), so it is possible they are recovering thos points. Are there any negative numbers in your EDR account?

It may also have been the promotion for select/home brand products.

I got double for the tea promotion; EDR have deducted the extra from the EDR account, but they seem to have gone over to QFF, so I assume they will get deducted from there as well. I can understand why, but its a pity they dont just leave it given their mistake

As others have said, points incorrectly credited to an EDR can be reversed.
So this would mean Woolworths send a debit to Qantas who then take the points from your account.
If a mistake is made, I think this is only fair.
However in the case of the OP, where it is unclear why, I think Woolworths have to give him a satisfactory explanation.

I think any time it happens that there should be some communication about what has happened. How hard is it to fire off an email to affected people.

Sent from my HTC Legend using AustFreqFly App

I was wondering what would happen with a product I took back to D¡ck Smith and got a refund on, so now I know to look out for points to go back. No worries.

Yep, from the terms and conditions at https://www.everydayrewards.com.au/edr/wps/portal/rewards/root/termsandconditions/...

12 Reversing Qantas Frequent Flyer points:
Qantas and Woolworths may reverse (debit) any Qantas Frequent Flyer points which have been or are to be credited to you. We may do this where you have returned goods or been refunded for services under transactions on which you have earned points or where there are other grounds which Woolworths or Qantas considers reasonable to warrant a reversal.

I guess we accepted these when joining, but it would be polite if they sent an email to explain what they're doing.

Richard.

Especially given that they result from their own stuff up. No refunding, no returns. Just their own errors.

I can confirm that returns (both total returns and only part-sale returns), and also exchanges for a lesser value (resulting in a refund) cause points to be deducted :)

just between you and me, I've done this and the points were never taken back

I don't believe I've returned anything, and Woolworths is still not talking to me, so I'm none the wiser.

Pretty poor show IMHO.

Same happened to me on the 22nd - 103 points removed. An email or some notification would be nice, but I often have seemingly randomly amounts appearing into my account so I just go with the flow. I recently also appear to have been award points for some itunes cards - likely they'll also reverse out at some random point in time.

I find this story extremely strange.

I can stay Everyday Rewards deducting points from their own program but I thought there would have been some sort of stop in place that they could not touch QFF account.

And in my opinion if Everyday Rewards made a mistake and credited too many points then tough luck on them. I have to try and draw blood out of a stone trying to get points from them that they owe me from the various promotions on offer.

Nothing strange about it, as already mentioned there was a swathe of 700 point deductions when they were crediting a quarterly promo every week last year, it is annoying when there is no comms or warning!

Yes I've had extra hotel points backed out of my QFF but did receive comms to explain.

Just noticed the same - 22 July, 187 points deducted from my QF account.

I haven't been over-credited anything and I haven't returned anything, so it's a total mystery to me.

What number did people call when trying to get answers? And has anyone been successful?

Edit: okay, seems I lie, I was double-credited the coffee bonus. Nothing to see here. :)
