Economy X vs Exit Row

I'm thinking about paying for either Economy X or an Exit row on an upcoming trip from Sydney to Hamilton Island - cost is $40 either way. Anyone care to comment on which is better and/or is it worth the additional cost.

I’d take Economy X as you also get Priority boarding and overhead lockers as a benefit
I think Priority security screening is still a benefit too

Economy x includes the exit rows. Of the lot I would pick row 3 as my preferred economy x row.

Emergency exit rows will also be one of the last to disembark upon arrival...

I prefer the non exit rows because you can’t put bag under seat and recline is disabled on exit rows.

EDIT: recline should work on the last row of exit row.

Row 3 has acres of legroom. Always my first choice if available.

I prefer the front seats. Row 3 if available, but 4 and 5 are also fine. I only choose exit rows if they aren't available.

Are you able to put bags underneath if go with row 3? I remember there is/was some sort of divider in between the eco x and biz seats.

No. Not during takeoff and landing.

And would you choose row 3 middle seat if A and C was occupied? Seen this before..fully economy X and empty seats of 3 at the back!!

I've found Row 4 to be the sweet spot of Economy X - bags can go under and you don't have the meal trays in the arm rests, which means a bit more room to sit.
Not really a fan of exit row...only one time where you get a quicker exit than everyone else.

Agreed, you’ll usually find me in 4A! I can put my bags in front, and then watch with some schadenfreude while pax struggle to put their bags overhead although it means I’m also waiting for them

If putting bags under the seat in front is your priority, then go for row 4.
If legroom is your priority, then row 3 or, if all those seats are taken, the exit rows.

Mrs Hawk is generally in 4A, so you'll find me in 4B. As a SYD boy living in BNE, I enjoy the view out the window past the Bridge and the Opera House most trips
