G'day all,

Hopefully all the kind souls I've encountered so far can answer another question that has so far managed to stump the Qantas booking staff I have spoken to this evening (who were fantastic in helping me out but just couldn't figure this one out).

I've just booked a AONE* fare with Qantas, but as I'm in Canberra the first leg of the trip is in Economy on a Dash-8 aircraft.

Apparently the round-the-world fare, despite being a fully paid First fare, only allows you to book into L rather than Y on the Economy legs, meaning that SCs are earned only at the discount economy rate.

I know I may be being picky worrying about 10SCs on a AONE* fare, but I'd like to get everything possible out of the very expensive fare.

Has anyone encountered this before, and if so is there a way to change the booking class somehow so that it at least earns at full economy rates?

By the way, it is just me or is it odd that the Qantas website lets you book a full Business fare on those same Dash-8 aircraft?

Thanks again to all for your help!

This is perfectly correct; if there is no 1st or business class on the QF flight it books into L

Bugger - seems a bit rough doesn't it?

Oh well - if that's how the system works I guess I won't worry about taking it further. I just hope I don't end up 30SCs short of WP this year!

Cheers,

James

Would the 'D' class on the 737 services be useful in this case?

In theory, but on Sundays the only jet service that gets to Sydney in time for my flight to LAX leaves Canberra at 0610am. I'm keen for the extra SCs, but my wife would probably prefer her sleep-in on a Sunday - hence the Dash-8 leaving at reasonable-o'clock.

The only time a AONEx or DONEx fare books into Y is for domestic flights on AY (FinnAir), LA (LAN Chile), LP (LAN Puru),XL (LAN Ecuador), 4M (LAN Argentina), and for American Eagle flights numbered AA3000-5599. All others, including QF, book into L class if no A or D.

Perhaps you could encourage the wife to enjoy the spa facilities, food and wine in the first lounge in syd!? Then maybe the early start doesn't matter...

yes, but if you catch the 6.10am, you would have time to book her in for a spa treatment at the F lounge in SYD to make up for it....
