Economy Boeing 747-400 vs A380 - SYD-LAX

Hi There
We are booking a family trip SYD-LAX return for 4 people.

Is there really much difference in ECONOMY between the Boeing 747-400 and the A380's? And if so which is different - which is more comfortable (even thought we have our 3 and 5 year old with us).

B747-400 (744) were upgraded / refurbished to match the A380-800 (A388) interior so the seats should be the same from my understanding.
I understand the A388 is a lot more quieter that the old B744's.

Width and pitch look the same according to seat guru.
