Hi all

New to the site and new to QFF program.

I was just wondering if i can use my QFF number on my husbands phone bill through optus?
and my brother in law is booking flights shortly, can i give him my QFF number? (if im paying for the flight?)
or is the possibility of earning points only for the card holder?

if that makes sense?

thanks in advance

Welcome to AFF!

For Optus, if the surname matches, you might be able to get away with it... not sure, but you can always try.

For QF flights, points and SCs can only be earned by traveller. If you book using your own credit card though (and the credit card itself earns frequent flyer points based on spend), then you can take those points yourself.

Otherwise, you can always sign them both up to Qantas Frequent Flyer, and then once a year you can transfer what points they have earned into your own FF account, or can use their points to book travel for yourself (without having to transfer - provided that they don't want to use them). :)

Thanks Chris!
OUr amex has been pretty handing with getting points.
Trying to find out how to earn more - I would apply for a heap of credit cards to get more points but that's not a fantastic idea for your credit file!

Hoping to fly to bangkok first class next year :) I am a little confused by the different classes i keep reading about - seems i have a lot to learn about QFF!

hi and welcome to AFF.

i don't know about the phone, but for flights, the name on the boarding pass must match the name of the qantas frequent flyer account.

one work around would be for your brother in law to accrue the points in his own account and then do a family transfer (but you can only do one of those a year, so maybe save them up if there are lots of flights).

Another question is - if i book flights for my husband and i - do we only get points for 1 person (myself) or miles?
is it best for both of us to have our QFF numbers in the booking or it doesnt make a hugs difference?

thanks again :)

Each person earns their own points and status credits. The status credits (SCs) work toward each individuals own status and the points can be transferred between people once per year. (up to 100,000).

I have done the exact opposite with the Optus bill. The Optus Bill was in my name and husbands FF number provided. The points were assigned to my husbands account.
