This is a question that has probably been answered before, but having trouble getting my head around it.

I want to fly BNE-SYD-NRT on JAL on 2 March and return on 9 or 10 March. There's a business class (I) fare that I think earns 0.7pts/mile. It appears that this is the same as the premium economy pts earning rate. I'm really more interested in the SC as I think the leg there will tip me over into QF gold. Do I get any bonus points for status flying on JAL? (Currently QF silver).

Also, does JAL still put people up in accommodation when there's a connecting flight? Just out of curiosity.

What's the best way for me to earn points and SC on this flight combo? I can't really see that it's worth the extra $600/trip to pay for a non-discount business fare just to earn some extra FF points. Or is it? I really need to fly the most direct route between Bne-NRT and going via SYD is a bonus since that's my hometown.

Any advice welcome! And any tips on skiing in Hakuba also gratefully received! Thx! :)

Wow. There's something I didn't know. Certain JAL Business fares earn less QFF points than Premium Economy.

Anyway, I class will earn you 0.7 points per mile as you say but Premium Economy (W and E classes) earn one point per mile. You will earn full status credits for each fare class. That is, just because you're only earning 0.7 points per mile in I class, does not mean you'll earn 0.7 x the number status credits. So in fact it seems if you're more interested in earning QFF points you'd be better off flying Premium Economy than an I Business fare.

See here.

No, there are no status bonuses for flying JAL. You only earn status bonuses on QF and AA now.

I can't help with the accommodation question.
