Earning Avios with hotels.com AND free award night

I was just scoping out BA Avios and learned if you book through the BA website to hotel.com here you can still earn your rewards night after every 10 nights (which I value highly for personal stays in non-chain places) but you can earn Avios as well.

Thinking about accruing a few Avios as I go. Last for 3yrs, extendable quite easily. Might be useful for nonstop flights intra-asia and from Hawaii to west coast US if I use NZ to Hawaii, stopover then BA onwards if fares are high. Not sure I'd use them across the Tasman or short haul in Oz but they're there. I have used hotels.com a fair amount in the past so I'm keen to earn Avios for doing something I already do!

Just need to change the hotels.com account as it's under my partners name as I was away and asked him to set it up and do some bookings a while back.

Anyone else using this? Says it takes 6-8wks for Avios to accrue to account. Is that true or just the standard line and it accrues sooner?

Indeed, I have discovered Avios are very valuable. Don't have many and not that easy to accrue so all tips appreciated!

I also googled earning Avios and there are a number of lists. I'm sure they'll get updated from time to time. Of course there are only a handful that apply to down under flyers but great if you can make use of them:

godsavethepoint list recently. Looks like there was a promo for hotels.com to earn more but it finished today.

I thought trains and Heathrow rewards, possibly car and other hotels might be something I would use. I already have the Heathrow rewards app but totally forgot to use it when I was eating airside. You can also pool Avios by creating a household account if other members live in the same house.

I would expect you will still earn Avios. The site will do their own calculation on your AUD spend and convert that to GBP and then to Avios. Not much different from IHG or Hilton sites that allow you to browse etc in your home currency and pay - you still earn their points.

The main point is remember to book via the British Airways hotels.com site.
