Mods, I did a search but all the relevant threads were closed.

I am looking to buy some Champagne for my return home for Christmas.

Travelling PER-SIN-LHR-DUB. WHere would be the best place to buy it?

Thinking of

1 X Dom 2002
2 X Pol Roger Vintage
2 X Veuve Vintage

Also might need a bottle of 1997 Penfolds Grange….

So what is my best option. I realise that I may have to buy the Grange in AU, but can I get it Duty Free @ PER?

UK for champagne IMO. US or Asia for spirits, but the UK seems to be pretty competitive when it comes to Champagne. Massive range at LHR duty free too (at least in T5).

Cheers
Febs.

I would actually check on line and see what prices the products are and where it is cheaper to get them.

IMHO I would rather pay a little more and get it when I land back in Aust so I am not carrying it around for a weeks holiday just to save a few dollars.

The OP is exporting not importing, if they were coming back the allowance would be exceeded, negating the savings. FWIW Grange is cheaper in the UK.

I just came back from Per-Sin-Kul-Per trip and was looking at champagne pricing myself.

Cant beat Sin for champs pricing, Dom was 188SGD and Krug was 202SGD, whilst the vintage 98 krug was about 350SGD if i recall.

Didnt see any Pol Roger Winston Churchill champs but did see the Veuve La Grande Dame for about the same price as Dom.

Kul pricing was higher than local Dan Murphys!

I didnt check out Grange.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

You cannot buy alchohol at all at Heathrow airport if you are flying to Australia and only transiting another airport as you cannot carry it as hand luggage, they will advise you of this at the airport also but dont leave it until then to purchase it. You are better off buying it in the UK (much cheaper than duty free anyway) and putting it in your hold luggage.

I know the OP is exporting, not importing, but for the record, are Aussies still saddled with that antique regulation forbidding us to carry on duty free liquid if it's more than 100ml? I've never understood the rule -- you're buying it airside. It must be "clean". I read somewhere about a year ago (in AFF I think) that the law was to be scrapped when scanning equipment improved -- and that was allegedly imminent.

As of June this year it was still in place but I'll be flying back through in December again so will check and advise. YOu can still buy it at Singapore airside and they will seal the bags and take to the gate for you, you have to carry it on the plane yourself. The selection is limited though

Agree,we were 'checked' for our 100ml before boarding in hkg. Very antiquated. Believe it maybe LOTFAB drivenwhodont trust other systems? Or is that too cynical?

I actually think it is driven by the Australian duty free stores to force purchase on arrival as when we flew from London to coughet (via Singapore) last Dec we purchased duty free at Heathrow and carried on and transited Singapore with no problem at all

Just be careful in Singapore that you have to buy 1 1/2 hours before your flight leaves. I was at the airport early but didn't want to carry around so I left it to the last minute and wasn't allowed to purchase. I think Singapore airport is unique in that arriving and departing passengers mix and apparently that is why you have the scanners at the departure gate.
