Hi,
I've searched and searched and can't find a definitive answer, we are flying Cathay J, HKG - Dusseldorf, arriving at 715 am
We then have a flight on Air Berlin at 0845 to Zurich.

These are separate PNR's as the first one is a QF points redemption and the AB flight was a cash purchase

I'm worried this connection is tight and wondering if the Cathay staff in HKG will check the baggage all the way through to Zurich or we will have to collect our bags in Dusseldorf.
Any advice on Dusseldorf transfers would be greatly appreciated.

Fortunately it looks like no busses are involved

  • If you’re transferring in Düsseldorf between aircraft belonging to the airberlin Group/oneworld, you’ll find your connecting flight at Gate B or C. There are airberlin transfer counters for information and assistance at both gates.
This was on the Cathay website:
For transit to Schengen countries, customers are required to clear immigration formalities in Düsseldorf and customs clearance at their final destination.

Surprised you've not had a response to this thread.

Personally I'd be worried with 90 minute unprotected connections at any airport. Good luck getting an answer.

I would think Cathay would be able to check your luggage through to the airberlin flight, but I don't have any firsthand experience with this particular connection.

FWIW Düsseldorf is a perfectly functional, modern airport and I wouldn't be too worried about the connection time, provided the Cathay flight arrives on time. Having said that, airberlin do sometimes use stand off bays in DUS requiring a short bus trip. If this is the case, boarding could start 30 minutes before departure time.

Thanks very much JohnK and Mattg.
It does seem Düsseldorf is a very efficient airport and as long as the Cathay flight isn't late we should be fine. I will update this for the record to let people know how we get o
