Dubai Connect hotel in Economy

According to QF website:

• Premium Economy and Economy customers with a connection time until the first available flight of more than eight hours and less than 24 hours upon arrival in Dubai, and who have eligible tickets.

I'm just wondering if I want to fly to Gatwich and choose QF9/QF8015 (arrive DXB 2325, depart 0825) - do I get the hotel even though there is another option on the booking engine at same price for the 0250 EK service to Gatwick? Also what hotel do economy passengers get?

I'm not sure it's that hard and fast. ISTR an example of a family member taking the later option instead of the early connection in DXB and they were able to add Dubai connect.

Strange, afaik that should not be allowed - perhaps they got lucky.

I've only had one experience with this, when I chose the 0600 departure PER-DXB so I would spend a night there before going on DXB-ATH (daily service at 1000, so I would be too late arriving for a same-day connection).

I could have chosen another flight out of PER with a direct connection through to the ATH flight but wanted the day in DXB - I was given STPC by EK at the Le Meridien, which was a pleasant surprise as I had a suspicion that since i had another choice of outbound flight, I would not be provided with a hotel.
