Wife & self be spending near 24 hours in Dubai on way to Europe and 3 nights on return, have no idea where to stay, too many hotels to choose from and Qantas has many, say around AUD$200/$250 night be OK, any advise on accommodation and tours appreciated. And yes Mrs Lime does like to shop!.

Stayed at the Pullman Deira dubai, close to the airport, shopping centre below ,monorail also at the door.Service very good& rooms clean.Hop on hop off bus tour shows you every thing, also included boat trip on Deira Creek enjoyable.

Le Meridian Dubai (close to airport) NOT recommended (luxurious, very crummy service).

Hilton Jumeirah Beach was good (close to the Marina), but its pretty well south of the action, and walk to the MRT is a bit long in the heat.

Next time I'm going to try to stay either close to the Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall or at the Madinat Jumeirah.

Some pics etc here: First stop and here: second stop

Thanks guys the Pullman looks suitable, book direct or via Q price about same with taxes, but direct is includes breakfast.

The Mariott marquis is worth a look! I don't think it matters too much where you stay be it business bay or near the creek as transport is easy and cheap (check out the aircon bus stops). As far as tours go, recommend the souk tours (walking tour) and I think a must do is the desert safari dinner.

The Burj Khalifa is a must do, try and prebook and look at doing the dawn tour on weekends (Fri and Sat), if you don't prebook a few days ahead then the only way to get in is to pay a very expensive fee.

It might be a bit late; you may have already departed. As a former resident in Dubai I would advise you to avoid airport and old Dubai hotels. Old Dubai is clogged up with traffic and one way systems. It is further to the Dubai Marina, but a long straight 7 lane highway taking no longer to get to than it would old Dubai. The Hilton, Moevenpick, Sofitel, Habtour Grand, all good hotels in the Marina and the Madinat and Jumeirah Beach hotels are also very good and within a $10-$15 taxi rides to the Mall of the Emirates. Avoid hotels on The Palm, they take too long to get to and from unless you want free access to the water park next to the Atlantis.

You MUST book the Burj Khalifa "at the top" trip beforehand or it will cost you 4 times the price on the day, if you can get a ticket. 1730 hours is the best time then stay on a couple of hours later for the Fountain Display.

Zulu0929 thanks for your advise, we are departing May next, the good woman has decided it's the Pullman, gets good reviews and is only $155 night at hotel.com with membership, this inc. breakfast too. Will view Burj Khalif from the ground a we both don't like heights. Change of plans now only be there 3 nights on way back from Europe. We are travelling in J so limo from EK to - from airport to hotel is provided. Will do a city tour probably with Viator, see few sights on our own and of course the good woman will do some shopping.

Al Manzil which is a 10 minute walk from the Dubai Mall. Check booking.com for competitive pricing.

Limewood, I got on the little boat that goes on the water around the fountains when they come on, at the foot of the Burj just outside the Mall. It's not very expensive although the fountain show was surprising short. I decided that was a better idea than trying to get a view against all the people knee deep around the fence. On the little boat, you get to sit down comfortably and get the best view, you don't get wet, and can put put around all the buildings surrounding the water. The boat driver will take photos with yr camera whilst trying to get the whole Burj in the background.

Another option is to view the fountains from the hotel opposite rather than the mall.

I found that I was taking any option to get to sit down sometimes after many hours of walking. In IST the only place I could find to sit down was at a shoe shine stand place at the back of the Bazaara on the one little stool. I let a number of people go in front of me so that I could sit for 10 mins, and was given a nice cuppa, and I got a great shine on the shoes. Cities w' millions of people are very short on resting spots.

Might take a fold up chair for the day!

re hotel booking all done at the Pullman.

The Dubai Mall has free wifi (and some seating if you are lucky). The Mall of the Emirates does not have wifi.

Don't forget to take a Dr's letter if you are taking any medications in, and leave in original boxes. If you are there on a Friday, a lot of things will be closed, but not the Malls.

Thanks for info.

Wont need Wi Fi much just few emails, hotel has it free, medication will have scripts, we depart on a Friday morning.

Not specific to this thread but what I've done in recent times when looking for hotels is to book through rocketmiles.com and credit to AA.
So I search dates on rocketmiles to see what is available and then I sort by Miles. Then I crossreference with TripAdvisor and see comments, ratings, etc about the hotel, location, etc.
My upcoming DXB trip will be at the H hotel for five nights. Can't remember the $ cost lol but I know it will nett me 25k AA miles which is certainly nothing to scoff at.

including the Metro, which doesn't open on Fridays until lunchtime! (As I discovered, after navigating my way to the nearest station).

Bit after lunch actually trains run from 2Pm until midnight on Fridays..
