Oh dear, just when you think you've heard it all.

A drunk woman on a Scotland-bound flight took off her false leg and started swinging it at cabin crew after staff refused her demands for cigarettes and a parachute.

The 48-year-old's antics forced the pilot to divert the flight to Gatwick Airport in London.
As police escorted the woman from the plane, relieved passengers broke into a rousing rendition of the Hokey Cokey.

It's to the point where I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

Throw the book at her.

We hear about these sorts of incidents all the time but it seems that more often than not that these people get away with a slap on the wrist.

It's disgusting really. I don't know if it's because the airlines don't press charges, or the relevant prosecutors just can't be bothered.

The courts are to blame. In most western countries they are too soft on cases like this one where no one ends up dead or seriously injured.

I could not find it with a quick Google search, but I'm sure Qantas or Jetstar have tried to recover damages from passengers whose actions allegedly led to a flight being diverted.

This may not be effective if passengers lack any substantial assets.

I would guess the woman in question may be mentally unstable, wanting a parachute.....

Assuming she will be charged in the UK jurisdiction, there's a kind of fair chance she will be subject to at least some sort of substantial fine, maybe imprisonment. The law does not look very kindly on assault over there.

But you are right - if the airline can't be bothered pressing then there will likely be no action.

I suppose someone had to bring up whether or not she was mentally disturbed. And it is going to be very, very difficult to discern what brought up her behaviour - a mental disorder, drunkenness or which one lead to the other?

Apart from a mental condition, she doesn't really have a leg to stand on (sorry, pun intended).

Shame on me for thinking bogan as soon as I saw the thread title.

I have to agree with some in this thread. That penalties handed for this sort of behaviour are too lenient.

Hokey Cokey?!?!

The Hokey Pokey (I had to look it up last night myself) "You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out.... "
Ahhhh the Humour

Not too many things surprise me these days.

Correct :) It's always been called the Hokey Cokey in Scotland
