those flights are "regional" (ie: similar to QF domestic) and some aspects of the menu and service are inferior to long haul. on some CX flights last month they generally had an australian red and a spanish red, both of which were not bad. given the demographics of CX passengers, they need to carry a european style lighter wine. what us australians consider normal is considered very heavy by others.

they had a very nice dessert wine and the champagne/scotch/cognac was also more than acceptable.

and the wing/pier had Lanson champagne, probably the best i have had in a J class lounge before. damn i love that airport...

Could get quite messy though. :p

Could make getting a few hours of shut-eye a bit difficult too, with all that Red Bull. :D

Tried the wines in AA domestic F?
Pretty terrible, though that shouldn't come as a big surprise...most food/drink in the US is. :)

For some reason no particular preference for drinks on QF J, though usually a scotch sometimes with coke, sometimes without.

On some other airlines I do have preferences - a Singapore Sling (on SQ - J or Y), or a decent local Sauvignon Blanc (on NZ).

I always wondered...are the slings served on SQ the authentic version?...or some watered down attempt (like most places in Singapore now serve!!!)

I'd say watered down, although I suspect (and would expect) J versions are stronger than the Y versions. Mind you, not that I'm suggesting SQ are stingy with alcohol - the worst I've ever been was on an SQ day flight back to MEL - in Y also, towards end of flight I asked for a cointreau on ice and back came an almost full glass, which was promptly replaced with another when I finished. Had to splash some water on my face etc, when arrived at MEL before fronting up to immigration. :p

I remember SQ use some sort of premixed bottle for the Sling. Then they add pineapple juice.

Try the Sling at the QF biz lounge at Changi Airport. Not to be missed!

Made fresh by a bartender... I always have to before any flight.

Strange how the QF F lounge in Singapore does not have a bartender????

At the SIN QF J lounge: the pizza and hot food buffet is on the right (as you enter).

next time, turn left and walk all the way to the end until u see the white marble bar..

all the alcohol is stored below and not really visible.. but there is a very helpful bartender there who makes coughtails on request :D

Last time he told me i was the only person to order a coughtail from him all day! Not many people know they can do that!

funny, there was a guy there last time i was in, and he did give me some (quite bad) champagne. but i thought he was just a contract cleaner! would probably help if they had a menu on the bar....

wonder if i can bring my singapore sling to the F lounge next time i'm there.. hehe might get into trouble..

Well if he's not getting any use in the J lounge, just bring the bartender over as well !!

Nothing beats a neat Scotch on the rocks (or two!) followed by a decent Shiraz or Cab Sav...

Welcome to AFF drross.

You will notice that alcohol is a common thread amongst many of the people that post on this board.
