That's good feedback. Thanks. I have never seen it so I didn't know, but on VA (738's) J, I'll always choose row 2 over row 1. Would the JQ J be a similar type of seat/pitch?

You would ordinarily be correct - row two can offer more legroom on aircraft like the 737 and A320. But for JQ's premium economy (and indeed many other carriers as well), the seat recline of 9 inches makes it very uncomfortable if the person in front reclines. The seat is basically very close and you are a little trapped.

Bulkhead seats are usually recommended in PE cabins.

Thanks. I'll leave it as 1C then (or maybe 1A perhaps if there is one of those big portlights there). If the cabin is not full, I might try a few!

Looking promising. I had the poor Indian taxi driver confused. Enroute to the International terminal he asks where I'm going. Gold Coast, I replied. Silence for a tad and then he says "you need domestic then?". "No, international......it's a bit odd". We get to the roundabout and he heads towards domestic....."no that way, international"! He probably thought crazy Australian doesn't even realise the Gold Coast is not international! ....."he's from Barcelona, you see":p

Waaaay back in the day we were unexpectedly upgraded on an oversold flight. BNE-SYD. Departing from the international terminal. The service was awesome and my date at the time thought I was a boss, I wasn't. The service involved as much champagne you could consume on the flight. I was only QP at the time, maybe 2-3 years in.

I'd like to fly with them again to see the service evolution.

Business class consists of me and......umm, me!

Dunno if you will get this before you disembark, but any chance you can take a couple shots of seat 1D (or 1F) - particularly leg-room and the position of the bulkhead vis-a-vis the leg area (how exposed are your feet into the curtain area?). There are no pictures of this anywhere on the net!

OK, my take on it.
PRO's
Acceptable leg room
good ife
OK seat
footrest
CON's
No meal
clearing customs

The wrap up.....
I didn't find customs a drama in CNS. It was straight through. Clearing customs was a shambles at the Gold Coast though. More thought needed on that.

The promised meal turned out to be a choice between a small packet of crisps, small box of popcorn or a small packet of lollies . whY max gets better fed than that, so I asked at the end of the flight if I could have chosen off the whY menu and was told yes ....not quite sure why it wasn't offered at the time!

If one wants gate 2 gate ife, than choose row 2 or row 3 as the screens are in the seat back. Row 1 has the flip up screens which have to be stowed on take off and landing.

Row 1 has plenty of leg room and by the look of it, so too do the other rows. I choose 1A, but if I do this again, I'd pick 2C.

The electronic blinds were OK, but not blacking out fully is a pain if you have the sun streaming in.

Over all, better than VA 738 J ( except the food) and into OOL wins it for me. If this flight became common, I'd fly it over VA without question.

Photo uploads are failing on the phone. I'll post them when I get home.

I choose 1A, but if I do this again, I'd pick 2C.

With an empty cabin row 2 is probably good, but once you start adding passengers the recline makes the other rows much less desirable :( (perhaps with the exception of Row 3JK which have 11 inches of recline and are available for pax use unless reserved for crew rest).

An AFF first??

Legroom (from 1C....excuse my ol' favourites shoes, I replaced them yesterday with new ones......exact same Brooks as they're really comfy).... I'm about 5'8" and if I pointed my toes forward, I could touch the bulkhead, but I didn't find it a problem.

1A legroom.jpg

1 D-E-F ........ note, these seats do not have the baby table, 1A/C and 1 G/I both have the baby table which may sway a seat choice.

D-E-F.jpg

1D-E-F ........ and the galley shot. D-E-F are marginally forward of the rest of the row, but so too is the galley bulkhead so no legroom lost.

D-E-F 2.jpg

2D-E-F leg room.........if G2G IFE is what you desire, then row 2 or 3 would be my choice and additional to what I said previously, 2/3 C,D or F,G would be the go as you are correct, with a row 1 recline, the space especially in 2/3 A,E and I, may be problematic to get out for loo visits etc.

Windows fully blacked out. I'd prefer the old manual blinds for complete black out, although apart from a bit of heat on my shoulder (the first photo is my window), it was not unduly problematic, just a little bit annoying.

It is! Thanks for posting. It doesn't look like 1D (and F) stick out too far into the aisle.
They don't stick out at all AFAIK.

The first row of whY sticks out though (similar to row 10 on the VA 777's).

EDIT....maybe they do stick out a bit. Here's another shot from row 2 which shows what looks like a protrusion into the aisle.

I've read a couple of reports where for long flights (daytime across australia to say Bali or thailand) that the sun is a real problem even when the windows are dimmed. Apparently boeing is looking for a solution.

I can understand that. We took off when the sun was low and the glare was a bit annoying, but survivable!

Keep all your Screenshots of the receipts and payments made plus the boarding pass, as i have had the occasional issue with JQ when it comes to awarding the correct Points and SC'S posting to my QFF account.

Points and SCs posted as expected for the business max fare. Given VA is currently merrily shafting status, I hope I can find many more of these sectors!

Soooo... having now completed a flight on JQi's 787 I can confirm that seats 1D and 1F do overlap into the aisle about 1/3 of their width. This isn't necessarily a 'bad' thing as the curtains were pinned open during the meal service just in front of 1D and F and so they didn't hit your feet every time a crew member passed through.

But geez... the legroom at the bulkhead is noticeably tighter than the A332s... at 6'3 I couldn't stretch my legs out fully like I could on 332. The seats also felt a lot narrower than the 332... lucky I had a spare beside me otherwise it would have been very tight.

Service was excellent, as usual. And the crew were great. But the food is not so good. It used to be more QFd business class standard (more like QFi premium economy), but now it's decidedly economy. The champagne was Cattier.

The 787s cabin environment is indeed much better than other jets. No dry nose/sore throat.

I would wholly recommend 1AB GJ, with the centre seats coming after that. Other rows suffer from being reclined in to. Really no good seats in rows 2 or 3, except maybe 3GJ with their extra recline.

Back from Bali earlier in the week. Did the return flight on Jetstar 787. Loved Bali but not the flight. For the flight over from Brisbane had exit row 23C. Huge amount of leg room but seat narrower than other seats. Had the bundle and meal was dreadful - a cold chicken rice type salad. Crew disinterested and after the meals were served no sign of them until they collected the rubbish after about 90 minutes. The crew gather in the galley and close the curtains and talk amongst themselves.

Return flight was in business as overnight flight back to Brisbane. Seat was 1J. I thought as bulkhead would have extra leg room as I am 187cm. Seat width not good (domestic seats on Jetstar are wider) and just could not get comfortable. Seat extremely difficult to recline. My expectations of the seat was that it would be similar to domestic business on QF and VA - my expectations were too high by a long shot!

Had the fish which was good but Asian greens that came with it were overcooked and did not eat them. Had a glass of Riesling - yuk! Again cabin crew disinterested and did not see them after they serve and collect the meals. Not even a water run.

From memory paid around $325 more for business class on the way back. What a waste of money given the seats and service. Would hate to have fly Jetstar on the 787 for any longer than the Bali flight.

Family that went can not wait to go back to Bali but not on Jetstar. Next time will look at VA which I appreciate is only a 737. Also VA have more friendly departure times.

Senior couple going JQ CNS/DPS/CNS in Y (there is no J) one is tad overweight other OK, while its only a 4.5hr flight any seats better than others?.
