Offensive racist posts like the one that you used to start this thread are probably one of the reasons.

Where was the racism... ? or do you always judge a book by it's cover?

I think "indian monkeys" would qualify as racist, and even you must have believed the content was racist or you wouldn't have headed your post "+ racism inside". If you didn't believe your post was racist why include that in your subject line?

Oh, lighten up!!!

If you don't like the content you were advised in the title.

You don't have to open the thread if it's going to offend your sensibilities.

Get a life!

If history is a guide making light of racism is a serious mistake.

Racism should never be ignored.

People should be made aware that racism is never acceptable

The world ignored Hitler, chose not to look to closely at what he was doing and we had the Holocaust.

Marian Wright Edelman:
"If you as parents cut corners, your children will too. If you lie, they will too. If you spend all your money on yourselves and tithe no portion of it for charities, colleges, churches, synagogues, and civic causes, your children won't either. And if parents snicker at racial and gender jokes, another generation will pass on the poison adults still have not had the courage to snuff out."

BEWARE OF THE RACISTS

Everyone is entitled to their opinion – Regardless of how ignorant and offensive it is.

Dear Mr d00t,

Thank you for your feedback.

*snip*

Furthermore, we assure you that all call centre staff are fully trained to meet our global and local standards and no matter where they are in the world, our employees are a mix of ethnicity and are fluent in English.

Cancelling platinum visa next month before renewal for sure!

Maybe it's time to stop taking pot shots and start discussing the topic. (or have admin close it down)

Surely the problem is that Citibank has staffed its call centres (where ever they are) with people that don't understand or aren't able to communicate in Oztralian :!:

Rather than get on a forum such as this and call everyone names, the more effective method for those who aren't happy with Citibank is to vote with their feet rather than taking to abusing each other.

I did. I've recently closed my Diners Club account and never followed through with my CC account when everyone started to have problems.

Do it you'll feel better and IF enough people do so then Citibank MAY get the message :!:

8) :x :p

I believe you are correct.

I also believe that accepting responsibility and ownership of one's opinions is also a vital part of the equation of free speech that we enjoy.

I agree entirely :!:

Indian call centres

Of course when you call citibank you will get a cheap call centre, the cost of employing people in Australia is astronomical, I bet Delhi doesn't have 6% payroll tax, what a crazy tax, to employ someone?

I have been frustrated with both overseas and Aussie call centres, but as with most of you, the frustration is greater with the overseas ones.

I wouldn't use racist slurs though. I would think an Aussie call centre would encounter problems serving and understanding an Indian clientele too - it doesn't mean that Aussies are dumber or are monkeys. It is just an issue with international call centre outsourcing. Citi etc have probably done their sums and worked out that the trade-off with cost savings are worth it, even if customer satisfaction dropped.

When I switched from Amex Gold Credit Card to Amex Platinum Credit Card, I instantly got an Aussie call centre. I still have frustrations with them, but they are admittedly easier to deal with. Mind you, it might not be only because they are Aussie, but I believe that they are staffed with more senior call centre staff with more delegated authority to do things to please the customer - e.g. bend the rules a bit if need be and dpeneding on the situation.

So, I would encourage you to switch if you are unhappy with your current provider, and to let them know why you switched.

The Amex Platinum credit card is great value with the free ticket and points and better customer service, IMHO. Unfortunately, I still have to have a Visa/MC from another provider, as AMex is not accepted at all establishments. I have a velocity card that I use when i need a Visa/MC. If I had to pay for year 2 of velocity, I think I'll switch to woolies (if it is still around then) or Citi (their world privilege gives great dining offers, and I might get 5,000 points if I get a referral) or ANZ Gold (for their travel insurance). I might transfer the velocity card to a cheaper product at NAB. I also have a Coles Myer Source, which I pretty much do not use. I think I'll just cancel it at some stage - I got it for the 10% discount at Myers and its no annual fee, but it provides no perks that I find of value... gee, I am getting pretty off-topic here.

So, my suggestion is to make fewer racist remarks - saying Citi's Indian/Filipino customer service is cough is ok, but calling them monkeys is going a bit out of line, IMO. Switch and let them know why you are switching. There are plenty of cards with Aussie Call centres. Try Amex Platinum Credit Card - I am happy with their CS, for the most part.

I'd agree with you, the AMEX customer service centre in Sydney Australia is great, for the most part. You still will, as you always with call centres, get misunderstandings or bad customer service experiences. However atleast when you can communicate more freely they often get resolved much more satisfactorly then say dealing with India.

You'll find the AMEX Platinum cards as well as some of the new Qantas AMEX cards (the top level one I think) use Australian based customer service.

So I'll second that if your unhappy, switch and tell them why, just as I did recently with Citibank.

Hi guys it's my first post

I have also had some frustration with dealing with Citibank. Pity they outsourced their CS callcentres. Admittedly though Citibank does offer some of the most competitive rates for the package they offer, so can't have the cake and eat it hey...

I've just got a couple of questions about the cards, with travel insurance are they all similar? I've got AMEX charge gold and Citigold wondering which one is better to go with. I'll even consider switching cards because travel insurance is very important requirement for me.

What's the difference between AMEX plat credit and plat charge? Must be a difference since charge is invite only? the plat credit didn't look so good considering the price...

If admin thinks the post has sidetracked from the topic please move to appropriate forum... thx

I have been out of the board for a while and just returned. I am not from India but I am definitely hurt to see a senior member like d00t making such a remark. There is a huge difference in saying "those monkeys in call centre" and "indian monkeys". I am sure there are many Indian (and other ethnic and many Aussies) and people on this board who will be making their own judgement. Sometimes we make comments emotionally. But there is no point defending it.

I am surprised that the admin is allowing this thread to be there without any amendments. It is a real shame!
