Dragonair - the Hong Kong-based airline that serves more destinations in Mainland China than any other airline not based there and is regularly voted the region's best - is to join oneworld in 2007.

oneworld - News

I haven't travelled to China yet but it is good news that there will be a OneWorld option soon. Along with the other 3 airlines joining OneWorld in 2007 it does appear to provide a better choice in Europe and North Asia.

This is great news for me. I have a number of HKG/PEK/PVG trips next year and need to justify not flying *alliance :)

Just wonder what the quality will be like.

Now given that there is some link i believe between Dragon AIr and Cathay (isnt Dragon Cathay's Jetsar) whether this will spur QF to get JQ into 1world...

Please don't compare Dragonair with Jetstar. They are like chalk and cheese.
CX and Dragon are now under the one banner, but Dragon has always been a full fledge airline. Travelled HK to PER a couple of times J class and the service, planes were good.

Ahh - thanks - no experience of them. A couple of potential itineraries I had listed them so no info and no points meant no booking ;) This could be really good for me and my Asian travel :)

Dragon air is great a lot of aussie pilots I presume ex Ansett. I have flown many times with them over the past 10 years should happened 10 years ago. Also CX is now flying HK to Shanghai which is good . If we can use the CX lounge whilst in transit into HK going into China you bloody beauty.

Has anyone heard a reasonably definitive date for this? The oneworld website (oneworld - Cathay Pacific) is oddly vague -

There is another quote from the OW site which is more informative, but no date set:

Dragonair, named China's best airline for the past five years by the SkyTrax airline quality organisation and serving more destinations in Mainland China then any other airline based outside the mainland, will join oneworld as an affiliate member later this year.

I'm sure Oneworld will start splashing the date around with glee once it is announced.

It will open up all of China to oneworld.
I would expect September to be the date, just a guess

I've heard a rumour it will be before then

The sooner the better!! This will make a big difference to those trying to fly with OW, and certainly make the new Circle Asia fare much more functional, as long as the price does not change when KA join....

I don't see any reason why the price would go up.
No other OW ticket went up with Jal, RJ and Malev joined.

I flew them from HKG - PVG this last trip and they were great.
Good airline from what i can tell.

I'd say they are one of the best up there with Singapore and Cathay.

Love them!

Remember they are owned by Cathay and operated along the same lines. (unlike the Qantas and Jetstar relationship)

Me too.. I flew them quite a bit a numberof years ago before QF started direct flights to Shanghai and Beijing.. service was always fantastic compared to the step down into QF J class for the SYD-HKG-SYD part of my trips..

flew with ka earlier this year from hk to shanghai, excellent airline from all accounts. In economy they stack in a few more rows of seats so there isn't much leg room but the meals are really good even on a short 1.5 hour flight.

Should make for some fantastic ff award opportunities in china.
