Downloading Torrents on Lounge WiFi

Smart network design would and QoS would take care of that (and as a result also need to restrict VPN to some extent)
agree smart network design would help as would quality of service but vpn what right would have here it's a very important business tool used for anonymity typically to bypass geographical restrictions.

Netflix now allow downloading of video content for offline viewing, so that will mean similar downloads to torrents.
yea heard about that. Have you given it a try? Interesting if one could use a VPN to download US content then watch it in Australia?

Or maybe just bring Australia into the current millennium, with high speed internet for all with plenty of capacity. BSB totally with you here Australia is backward Let me say that again mr Turnball Backward when it comes to internet speed even in Big cities! 29 Euro here in Berlin 212 MB/sec down ..... offerring now 400!

On on a side issue, I find charging for internet usage in our hotels quite archaic, especially considering the (lack) of speed. My US and European colleagues are always aghast.
found the same. If there was a correlation with speed and the dollar paid I would be happier.

They probably already do through QoS i.e. set bandwidth per client. They can also block ports to prevent torrent clients working (from the sounds of it though, not implemented). Blocking VPN traffic overall wouldn't be reasonable I guess being as VPN's are commonly used in a business environment.
Totally Agree with you Jmrocky

How do you know that guy didn't already have a licence to possess an electronic copy of the movie he was downloading?
Yep agree with you mrdctau, obviously some people methinks pretend to know the others circumstances.

How do you know he/she was using lounge wifi and not their own mobile wifi? I'd be pretty offended if you were checking up on my screen that closely.
Precisely. I do use my own SIM card internet to avoid using public wifi for security reasons sometimes! And download stuff. All sorts of stuff too.

It's a bit of a habit. My personal internet connection is slow, so any time I connect I have a look at 'speedof.me' Most hotels are appalling, irrespective of how much they charge. Our London hotel once had a connection of about 80 meg/sec, but it is now only about 3. Last time I looked at the lounge, it was about 5 meg/sec. At one point it was much faster.
They find the cost of 80meg prohibitively expensive as they do offering all available TV channels it adds up.
Although premium offerings can be at times ok ie Hilton Berlin

I usually download updates for the apps on my Samsung. Extremely slow and sometimes don't get to finish all the updates.

I remember one time trying to download updates for Vista on laptop and didn't get very far at sll. The download was only 40MB-50MB.

Free wi-fi on Brisbane Airtrain is 20MB per day? Not able to do too much downloading there.
